Animoca Brands Partners with Sony Block Solutions Labs to Develop Blockchain-based Identity Infrastructure
Mar 29, 2025 at 12:00 am
The collaboration introduces Anime ID, a decentralised identity system built by San FranTokyo, a contributor to the Anime Foundation.

Animoca Brands is integrating its Moca Network identity technology into Sony's Ethereum Layer 2, Soneium, to support a new decentralised identity system called Anime ID and a series of anime-themed projects.
Announced as a partnership also involving San FranTokyo—a contributor to the Anime Foundation—and Sony Block Solutions Labs, the collaboration will see the launch of Anime ID as the first implementation of Moca Network's identity tools on Soneium.
Moca Network will play a central role through its AIR SDK (Account, Identity, Reputation Software Development Kit), which provides account management and credential verification capabilities that can be used by developers on Soneium.
The partnership will also include a cultural initiative with San FranTokyo leading a series of campaigns to attract anime communities to Soneium and introduce them to Web3 experiences.
"We are integrating Moca Network's identity infrastructure into Soneium, starting with Anime ID, to create a seamless digital ecosystem where users can seamlessly move between applications while maintaining a single identity and reputation," said Yat Siu, Co-founder and Executive chairman of Animoca Brands.
"This partnership brings together the worlds of anime, gaming, and blockchain technology to empower Soneium users with unified digital identities and unlock new possibilities for Web3 engagement."
What will this partnership bring?
Under the agreement, Moca Network's identity infrastructure will be integrated into Soneium, beginning with the launch of Anime ID. The AIR SDK will enable users to maintain a single identity and reputation that follows them across different applications, while also allowing developers on Soneium to issue and verify user credentials such as email orKYC.
"We aim to onboard global anime fans to the Soneium ecosystem by integrating Moca Network's AIR SDK and Anime ID into Soneium and Animoca Brands launching anime-inspired cultural campaigns, enabling them to collaborate, create and fill the world with emotions and vivid impressions," added Jun Watanabe, chairman of Sony Block Solutions Labs of Soneium.
In parallel, San FranTokyo will be launching a series of campaigns designed to increase user engagement on Soneium and introduce the platform's offerings to new audiences. These campaigns will be focused on specific anime IPs and fan communities, aiming to connect them to existing blockchain-based projects on Soneium.
What's next for Animoca Brands?
This collaboration continues Animoca Brands' broader initiative to build infrastructure for digital identity and asset ownership across blockchain ecosystems. Moca Network is a key part of this strategy, designed to work across multiple chains and support unified identity, asset tracking, and reputation management.
Moca Network is powered by the $MOCA token, which is used to support identity verification, data storage, and network governance functions within the Moca Network ecosystem.
Animoca Brands continues to expand its presence in blockchain gaming, decentralised identity and digital ownership through partnerships and investments. The company has assembled a large portfolio of web3-related projects and has been engaging in initiatives focused on decentralised technologies and their long-term adoption.
No specific launch date for Anime ID or the upcoming campaigns on Soneium has been confirmed, but both companies say that development is already underway.
