Airdrop Recipient Loses Out on Potential $1 Million ENA Windfall

Apr 03, 2024 at 03:51 pm

The recipient of the largest Ethena Labs airdrop missed out on a significant profit by selling their tokens for immediate gain. Having received 3.30 million ENA tokens worth $1.96 million, the recipient liquidated their holdings on Bybit 15 minutes after the airdrop. However, within 11 hours, ENA reached an all-time high of $0.8987, valuing the initial airdrop at $2.96 million – a missed profit opportunity of $1 million.

Ethena Labs Airdrop Recipient Misses Out on Potential $1 Million Profit

On April 2nd, Ethena Labs launched the ENA token airdrop, distributing $450 million worth of tokens to eligible recipients. According to data from Arkham Intelligence, the largest airdrop recipient received 3.30 million ENA tokens, valued at approximately $1.96 million at the time of the airdrop.

However, in a hasty move for immediate profit, the recipient transferred the entire holding to the Bybit crypto exchange just 15 minutes after receiving them. At the time, the ENA token was trading at $0.59.

Within 11 hours, the ENA token surged to an all-time high (ATH) of $0.8987, with a total market capitalization of $1.27 billion. Had the largest airdrop recipient held onto their tokens until the ATH, they would have realized an additional $1 million in profit, bringing their total earnings to $2.96 million.

The ENA token has since experienced a slight pullback, trading at $0.84 at the time of writing, representing a 5% decline from its ATH. However, it maintains a market capitalization of $1.18 billion, ranking it as the 84th largest cryptocurrency by market value.

Ethena Labs, known for its synthetic USD token USDe, has garnered significant industry support. Former BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes and other prominent figures have publicly endorsed the project. Additionally, Binance Labs invested in Ethena Labs as part of its incubator program in February.

The incident highlights the potential risks and rewards associated with airdrops. While they can provide substantial returns for early adopters, hasty decision-making can result in missed opportunities for maximizing profits.
