AI Market Experiences Crypto Crash as Major Tokens GRIFFAIN (GRIFFAIN), GRIFT and FARTCOIN Plummet by as Much as 30%

Major AI tokens took a hit today as the total market cap for AI tokens fell by more than 10%, slipping from over $41 billion to $37 billion overnight. At the time of writing, the trading volume for AI tokens stood at nearly $3 billion.

Most AI tokens experienced a decline over the past day, with major strongholds like GRIFFAIN (GRIFFAIN), BUZZ, GRIFT and FARTCOIN (FARTCOIN) seeing falls ranging from 20% to more than 30%.

According to crypto.news, FARTCOIN (FARTCOIN) fell by around 30% in the past 24 hours and even more over the past week. In the past seven days of trading, the token, which originated from an AI meme, dropped by more than 53%. It was last seen trading hands at $0.96.

Another AI agent-related token, VIRTUALS (VIRTUALS), fell by more than 20% in the past 24 hours of trading. The Virtuals Protocol token was trading hands at $1.97, maintaining a market cap of $1.2 billion amidst the crypto crash today.

On the other hand, DefAI tokens also suffered a crypto crash today. According to data from SoSoValue, the DefAI sector in its entirety fell by more than 27%. GRIFFAIN, the AI-agent platform token, fell by more than 27.5% in the past 24 hours. However, GRIFFAIN still held the largest market cap of all the DefAI tokens, at $301.46 million.

BUZZ, an AI-agent token from Hive AI, was also in a slump. The token fell by 22.3% in the past 24 hours and 20.4% in the past week. NEUR experienced a similar loss to Buzz, plummeting by 25.75% in the past 24 hours.

However, GRIFT became the DefAI token with the biggest loss in the crypto crash today. Orbit’s token fell by more than 33% in the past 24 hours and 35% in the past week. Orbit is an AI Agent platform that helps users execute on-chain actions using AI.

According to Binance’s latest survey, a majority of their users were certain that AI tokens would be the ones to lead the crypto markets in 2025. Despite this vote of confidence, it seems the AI and DeFAI sectors are off to a rough start at the beginning of the year. Though, more crypto firms are experimenting with and combining AI technology with the blockchain, including Lightchain AI, XRP’s partnership with Atua’s developer, and Holdstation’s AI agent platform A(i)gentFi.
