SEC Acknowledges Speculation Is Key to Improving XRP's Utility and Price
Sep 26, 2024 at 08:21 am
Following the ongoing legal case between SEC and Ripple, a new insight has surfaced that highlights a rather surprising stance from the SEC.

The ongoing legal battle between the SEC and Ripple continues to reveal interesting insights.
According to a document shared by Anderson, an assets researcher, in a recent tweet, the SEC has acknowledged the role of speculation in boosting XRP’s utility and price.
The document, which was included in Ripple’s lawsuit, is an email sent by Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse to his board members on April 9, 2017.
Even the SEC understands the important role of SPECULATORS and speculative volume in starting up the #XRP flywheel, so that XRP can be used in Ripple's products. So, if there will be a big speculative rise in the price of XRP, along with a natural rise in trading volume, this… pic.twitter.com/rsLL6tuQX5
In the email, Garlinghouse highlights the importance of XRP’s market activity and price surges for the company. This aspect was also considered by the SEC, which acknowledged that speculative trading contributes to the liquidity of the XRP ecosystem, a crucial factor for Ripple’s products.
Essentially, this indicates that the SEC recognizes the buying and trading of XRP, not solely for transactional purposes, but also for potential gains. While speculation often carries inherent risks, it plays a critical role in building the liquidity that Ripple needs to operate its payment solutions, such as its On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) product.
Community members are discussing this development, with some expressing surprise at the SEC's argument and others viewing it as a positive sign for XRP’s future.
Several members pointed out the importance of speculative trading in building liquidity for XRP, which could indicate that the token’s value might be more resilient than previously thought.
However, some members remain concerned about Ripple's upcoming RLUSD stablecoin and whether it could eventually replace XRP in Ripple’s payment system. While Ripple has clarified this, stating that XRP still plays an important role in its cross-border payment system, Garlinghouse's comments, as highlighted by the SEC, suggest that as long as speculation drives significant price movements in XRP, the token will likely remain central to Ripple’s ecosystem.
XRP Price Analysis: Stuck or Ready for a Breakout?
At the time of writing, XRP is trading at $0.5906, with a 9% decrease in total trading volume. Over the past 24 hours, the volume has dropped to $897 million.
While this may not be particularly exciting, several analysts are predicting that the cryptocurrency is preparing for a substantial price movement. However, opinions differ on the direction of the breakout.
According to an analysis posted on X by Jackis, XRP has been stuck in a long sideways trading pattern for more than seven years. He anticipates that the crypto might experience a breakout soon, given its weak support level.
On the other hand, another analysis by Javon Mark suggests that this consolidation phase could lead to a massive price pump. If the price breaks out of the range to the upside, we can expect price gains.
Mark projects a potential price target of $263, which would be an incredible surge of over 42,000% from its current price. However, it's crucial to approach such projections with caution and consider the broader market conditions and technical analysis.
