Aave V3 Launches GHO Stablecoin on Arbitrum, Leveraging Chainlink's CCIP Interoperability Protocol

Jul 03, 2024 at 03:01 pm

The recent implementation of the stablecoin GHO on the layer-2 network of Ethereum marks a significant step for the Arbitrum protocol.

Aave V3 Launches GHO Stablecoin on Arbitrum, Leveraging Chainlink's CCIP Interoperability Protocol

Aave DAO recently voted to deploy its stablecoin, GHO, on Arbitrum, a layer-2 scaling solution for Ethereum.

This move aims to leverage Arbitrum's low transaction costs and high throughput capabilities to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of GHO.

The integration with Arbitrum will also enable users to seamlessly transfer, burn, and mint GHO tokens across Ethereum and Arbitrum using Chainlink's CCIP protocol.

This interoperability layer facilitates multi-chain functionality for GHO, allowing it to be utilized in various decentralized applications and ecosystems.

As part of a broader collaboration between Chainlink and Arbitrum since 2020, Chainlink's CCIP protocol has seen increasing adoption, with total revenue from network fees reaching $377,724 in March 2024, largely driven by activity on Arbitrum.

Meanwhile, Arbitrum and Optimism, two leading layer-2 networks for Ethereum, have seen contrasting trends in their performance this year.

While both networks experienced an increase in transaction activity, their total value locked (TVL) and the market capitalization of their native tokens both declined.

According to IntoTheBlock, Arbitrum and Optimism processed over 409,000 and 250,000 transactions on average over the past seven days, respectively.

These numbers indicate a remarkable increase compared to their respective averages of 100,000 and 70,000 transactions per day in April 2024.

The usage of Arbitrum and Optimism has reportedly quadrupled over the past twelve months, with a surge in activity following the implementation of EIP 4844, which enhances Ethereum's scalability.

Arbitrum's transaction volume has surged, reaching a record high of 2.6 million on June 26, with an average increase of 400,000 transactions per day since April.

In contrast, Optimism's transaction volume decreased from 800,000 in April to an average of 409,000 transactions per day.
