Aave DAO Considers Fee Switch, Following Industry Giants
Apr 07, 2024 at 05:00 pm
Aave DAO, following the latest moves by industry leaders Uniswap and Frax Finance, is proposing to activate a "fee switch" on its platform, potentially distributing fees to token holders. The proposal, announced by Aave founder Marc Zeller, comes as the DAO's net profits reach $50 million per year. The move reflects a shift towards enhanced rewards for stakers and aligns with the industry trend of protocols redistributing fees to their communities.

Aave DAO mulls fee switch, following Frax Finance and Uniswap
Aave governance member Marc Zeller, founder of Aave Grants Initiative, has announced a potential vote to activate a "fee switch" on the decentralized lending platform Aave.
In a recent Lens post, Zeller stated that a temperature check to gauge the community's sentiment on enabling the fee switch and distributing fees to token holders could take place next week.
"The Aave treasury 'Cash' (Eth & Stables) is now at 50m$. (2.5 years of operational costs)\n\nNet DAO profits are currently at $50m/year and growing.\n\nTemp check to activate 'fee switch' next week.\n\nYou can track the treasury balances with @zapper_fi ?," Zeller tweeted on April 6, 2024.
According to Zeller's post, the DAO's net profits currently stand at $50 million per year and are continuing to grow. The post suggests that the move could significantly impact how Aave DAO utilizes its annual net profits.
However, announcing the proposed vote next week, he wrote on Lens, "Temp check to activate 'fee switch' next week."
In a previous Lens post, Zeller had shared information about Aave DAO distributing fees to GHO stakers based on their merit.
"A new version of the safety module will propose to the governance to distribute fees to stakers," the post read.
"For now, GHO stakers get fees via Merit (next week). A new version of the safety module will propose to the governance to distribute fees to stakers," Zeller tweeted on March 16, 2024.
Aave's plans to enhance rewards for stakers align with recent moves by other leading decentralized finance (DeFi) players like Uniswap and Frax Finance.
Decentralized stablecoin protocol Frax Finance recently passed a proposal to re-enable the protocol's fee switch. Similarly, Uniswap has also proposed upgrades to its protocol governance, with a focus on redistributing protocol fees to UNI token holders.
Amidst this development, the native token of the platform, AAVE, has witnessed a boost of over 5% in the last 24 hours. At the time of writing, AAVE is trading at $121, with a total market capitalization of $1,790,746,874.
Despite the token's intraday gains, AAVE's trajectory over the past month has been bearish. The current price marks a 1.20% correction in a month and a 3.25% decline in a week.
