- On June 28, 2020, Compound Finance launched its initial Coin Offering (ICO), raising $4.2 million from investors.
- The total supply of COMP tokens at launch was 10 million.
- 25% of the total supply (2.5 million COMP) was distributed to ICO participants.
2. Ongoing Issuance
- COMP is an inflationary token, meaning that new tokens are minted regularly.
- New COMP tokens are distributed to users who lend and borrow on the Compound protocol.
- The issuance rate of COMP is initially high (6.8 million COMP per year), and gradually decreases over time.
3. Circulation
- As of March 8, 2023, the circulating supply of COMP is approximately 7.96 million.
- This represents about 79.6% of the total supply.
- The remaining 2.04 million COMP (20.4%) is currently locked away or held by the Compound team.
4. Market Performance
- COMP has been a volatile asset since its launch.
- It reached an all-time high of $966.86 on May 10, 2021.
- As of March 8, 2023, it is trading at $48.54.
