How to swap tokens inside Phantom Wallet? (In-app Exchange)
To swap tokens in Phantom, open the app, tap Swap, select tokens and amount, review slippage and fees, approve the transaction, and confirm—no Phantom fees, but network and DEX fees apply.
Mar 18, 2026 at 04:20 pm
Accessing the In-App Exchange Feature
1. Open the Phantom Wallet extension or mobile application and ensure you are logged into your wallet.
2. Navigate to the main dashboard where your token balances are displayed.
3. Locate and tap the Swap button, typically positioned near the top-right corner of the screen or within a dedicated trading section.
4. Confirm that your connected network matches the blockchain where both source and destination tokens reside — for example, Solana for SPL tokens or Ethereum for ERC-20 assets.
5. The interface will load available liquidity pools and routing options based on real-time market data from integrated decentralized exchanges.
Selecting Tokens and Inputting Amounts
1. Tap the input field labeled “From” to open the token selection menu and choose the asset you wish to trade away.
2. Tap the output field labeled “To” and select the desired receiving token from the list or search by symbol or name.
3. Enter the amount you want to swap in the “From” field; the interface automatically calculates the estimated output using current exchange rates and slippage parameters.
4. Phantom displays the estimated received amount, network fee, and price impact percentage before execution.
5. If the selected pair lacks direct liquidity, Phantom may route the trade across multiple pools or bridges, which is indicated with a note about intermediate swaps.
Reviewing Transaction Details and Slippage Settings
1. Before confirming, scroll down to view full transaction breakdown including gas cost, route path, and minimum output guarantee.
2. Adjust the slippage tolerance using the gear icon — default is usually 0.5%, but volatile tokens may require higher values like 1% or 2%.
3. Check whether the trade involves wrapped assets or cross-chain conversions, as these introduce additional verification steps and potential delays.
4. Review warnings related to low liquidity, high price impact (>5%), or unsupported token contracts flagged by Phantom’s security scanner.
5. A green checkmark appears next to verified tokens; red alerts indicate unverified or potentially risky contracts requiring manual approval.
Confirming and Executing the Swap
1. Tap the Swap button at the bottom of the screen to initiate the transaction signing process.
2. Your wallet prompts you to review and approve the transaction — this includes authorizing token allowance if it’s your first time swapping that particular asset.
3. Once approved, the transaction broadcasts to the respective blockchain; status updates appear in real time within the Phantom interface.
4. Successful swaps reflect updated balances within seconds on Solana, while Ethereum-based swaps may take longer depending on network congestion.
5. Transaction history is permanently stored under the Activity tab, including hash links to explorers like Solscan or Etherscan.
Troubleshooting Common Swap Failures
1. If the swap fails with “Insufficient balance”, verify token decimals and ensure you’re not confusing native SOL with wrapped SOL or other similarly named tokens.
2. “Transaction rejected” errors often stem from expired quotes — refresh the swap screen to fetch new pricing and routing information.
3. Network-specific issues such as RPC downtime or chain halts prevent quote generation; Phantom displays an error banner indicating which RPC endpoint failed.
4. Token mismatches occur when attempting to swap between incompatible standards — for instance, trying to exchange an ERC-20 token directly on Solana without bridging first.
5. Phantom does not support atomic cross-chain swaps natively; users must manually bridge assets before initiating intra-chain trades.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does Phantom charge a fee for using the in-app swap feature?A: Phantom does not impose its own commission, but users pay network fees and DEX protocol fees embedded in the quoted price.
Q: Can I swap NFTs using the Phantom Swap interface?A: No. The in-app exchange only supports fungible tokens; NFT transfers require separate actions via the Collectibles tab.
Q: Why does Phantom show “No routes found” for certain token pairs?A: This occurs when no supported DEX offers liquidity for that combination, or when one token lacks sufficient verification or trading volume.
Q: Is it possible to cancel a pending swap after confirmation?A: Once signed and broadcast, transactions cannot be canceled on-chain; however, unconfirmed Solana transactions may expire automatically after a set duration.
