How to stake Ethereum on Ledger Nano X via Lido? (DeFi Staking)
To stake ETH via Lido with your Ledger Nano X: update firmware, install Ethereum app, connect via MetaMask, visit lido.fi, approve transactions on-device—fully non-custodial.
Feb 15, 2026 at 04:19 pm
Setting Up Ledger Nano X for Ethereum Staking
1. Ensure your Ledger Nano X firmware is updated to the latest version using Ledger Live desktop application.
2. Install the Ethereum app on your device through Ledger Live—this enables ETH account management and signing capabilities.
3. Verify that your Ethereum account is visible in Ledger Live and contains sufficient ETH to cover gas fees and staking deposits.
4. Confirm that the browser extension of MetaMask is installed and configured to recognize Ledger as a hardware wallet provider.
5. Switch MetaMask to the Ethereum Mainnet and connect it to your Ledger Nano X by selecting “Connect Hardware Wallet” and choosing Ledger.
Connecting to Lido’s Staking Interface
1. Navigate to the official Lido website (lido.fi) and click “Stake ETH” on the homepage.
2. Click “Connect Wallet” and select MetaMask from the available options.
3. Approve the connection request in MetaMask, ensuring your Ledger Nano X is unlocked and the Ethereum app is open.
4. MetaMask will prompt you to confirm wallet access—verify the address displayed matches your Ledger-controlled ETH address.
5. Once connected, the interface displays your ETH balance and estimated stETH yield based on current network conditions.
Executing the Staking Transaction
1. Enter the amount of ETH you wish to stake—note that Lido accepts any amount, with no minimum threshold.
2. Review the transaction details including expected stETH tokens, slippage tolerance, and gas fee estimation.
3. Click “Stake” and confirm the action in MetaMask.
4. Your Ledger Nano X will display a signing request—navigate using the side buttons and approve the transaction with both buttons simultaneously.
5. Wait for blockchain confirmation; stETH tokens appear in your connected wallet shortly after the transaction is mined.
Managing stETH Tokens and Withdrawals
1. stETH balances are automatically reflected in MetaMask once the staking transaction completes successfully.
2. You can add stETH as a custom token using its official contract address on Ethereum Mainnet: 0xae7ab96520de3a18e5e111b5eaab095312d7fe84.
3. stETH accrues rewards continuously and can be traded or used as collateral in DeFi protocols like Aave or Curve.
4. Direct ETH withdrawals from Lido remain unavailable until the Shanghai upgrade activation—users rely on liquid staking derivatives or third-party bridges.
5. Lido does not hold custody of your private keys—the entire process remains non-custodial thanks to Ledger Nano X’s secure element and signature isolation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I stake ETH directly from Ledger Live without MetaMask?A: No. Ledger Live does not support direct interaction with Lido’s smart contracts. MetaMask or another Web3-compatible wallet is required to bridge hardware security with DeFi protocols.
Q: What happens if my Ledger Nano X is lost or damaged after staking?A: As long as you retain your 24-word recovery phrase, you can restore access to your ETH and stETH on a new Ledger device or compatible wallet.
Q: Is there a lock-up period for staked ETH via Lido?A: There is no enforced lock-up period. stETH is immediately transferable and redeemable on decentralized exchanges, though ETH principal remains bonded in the Beacon Chain until withdrawal functionality is enabled.
Q: Do I need to manually claim staking rewards?A: No. Rewards compound automatically—stETH balance increases over time relative to ETH, reflecting accrued validator yields without manual intervention.
