How to stake Cosmos (ATOM) for rewards in Exodus?
Set up your Exodus wallet, buy or transfer ATOM, and start staking with automatic delegation—earn compounded rewards daily with no extra fees.
Oct 25, 2025 at 12:10 pm
Setting Up Your Exodus Wallet for ATOM Staking
1. Download and install the Exodus wallet application on your desktop or mobile device. The platform supports both Windows and macOS, as well as iOS and Android operating systems.
2. Create a new wallet or restore an existing one using your 12-word recovery phrase if you already have an account. Ensure that your recovery phrase is stored securely and never shared with anyone.
3. Once logged in, navigate to the main dashboard where your asset portfolio is displayed. Locate Cosmos (ATOM) in the list of supported cryptocurrencies. If you don’t see it, use the search function to find ATOM.
4. Before staking, make sure your Exodus wallet is fully synchronized and updated to the latest version. An outdated app may prevent staking functionality from appearing.
5. Confirm that your internet connection is stable. Unstable connections can interfere with transaction confirmations and staking activation.
Purchasing or Transferring ATOM into Exodus
1. If you don’t already own ATOM, use the built-in exchange feature in Exodus to buy it directly. Click on “Buy” next to ATOM and follow the prompts to complete a purchase using a connected bank account or card.
2. Alternatively, transfer ATOM from an external wallet or exchange into your Exodus wallet. Copy your ATOM deposit address from the Exodus interface and paste it into the withdrawal field of the sending platform.
3. Wait for the transaction to be confirmed on the Cosmos blockchain. This typically takes only a few minutes. Do not attempt to stake until the balance appears and is fully confirmed.
4. Double-check that the network used for the transfer matches the Cosmos mainnet. Sending ATOM over incompatible networks such as IBC channels without proper routing may result in lost funds.
5. Keep a small amount of ATOM un-staked for potential future transaction fees, especially if you plan to unstake or redelegate in the future.
Activating Staking for ATOM in Exodus
1. Once your ATOM balance is visible and confirmed, click on the ATOM asset tile to open the management panel.
2. Look for the “Stake” button. It will appear only if staking is supported for ATOM at that time. Exodus automatically enables staking when network conditions and wallet updates allow it.
3. Enter the amount of ATOM you wish to stake. You can choose to stake all or part of your balance. Review the amount carefully before proceeding.
4. Confirm the staking action. Exodus will connect to the Cosmos network and delegate your ATOM to a validator managed by their service. You do not need to manually select a validator—Exodus handles delegation automatically.
5. After confirmation, your ATOM will enter a bonding period, which usually lasts around 21 days. During this time, rewards begin accruing but cannot be withdrawn immediately.
Earning and Viewing Staking Rewards
1. Once bonded, your staked ATOM will generate rewards daily. These are distributed according to the current inflation rate and network participation.
2. Open the ATOM section in Exodus regularly to view your accumulated rewards. They are shown separately from your principal staked balance.
3. Rewards are compounded automatically. Each time new rewards are issued, they are added to your staked total, increasing future earnings.
4. There is no minimum threshold to earn rewards. Even small amounts of staked ATOM will accumulate proportional returns over time.
5. Exodus does not charge additional fees on staking rewards—what you earn is what you receive. Network-level commission rates apply based on the validators used.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I unstake my ATOM at any time?Yes, you can initiate an unstake request within the Exodus wallet. However, there is a 21-day unbonding period during which your ATOM remains locked and non-transferable.
Are staking rewards guaranteed?Rewards depend on network conditions, including validator uptime and overall staking participation. While generally consistent, they can vary slightly from week to week.
Does Exodus support IBC transfers for staked ATOM?No. You cannot transfer staked ATOM via IBC channels while it is bonded. You must first unstake and wait for the unbonding period to complete.
What happens if the Exodus wallet shuts down staking support? If Exodus disables staking for ATOM, your funds remain safe. You would need to unstake through their interface or export your keys to another compatible wallet to manage your delegation.
