How to set up a new wallet on an existing Trezor Model T?
Initialize your Trezor Model T by connecting it to suite.trezor.io, resetting the device if needed, and securely recording the generated recovery seed.

Initializing a New Wallet on Your Trezor Model T
1. Connect your Trezor Model T to your computer using the provided USB cable. Ensure that the device is powered on and recognized by your system. The Trezor Suite interface should automatically detect the device once connected.
2. Open the official Trezor Suite application in your web browser at suite.trezor.io. This is the only recommended platform for managing your Trezor device. Avoid third-party interfaces to maintain security.
3. If your Trezor Model T already has a wallet set up and you wish to create a new one, choose the option to 'Recover from backup' or 'Reset device' depending on your intention. To start fresh, select 'Reset device' and confirm the action on the physical device.
4. During the reset process, the device will prompt you to generate a new recovery seed. Make sure you are in a private environment. The Trezor will display a 12-, 18-, or 24-word mnemonic phrase—record it exactly as shown, in the correct order, and never store it digitally.
5. Confirm the recovery seed on the device by selecting the words in the correct sequence when prompted. Once verified, your new wallet is initialized and ready for use within Trezor Suite.
Securing Your Recovery Seed
1. The recovery seed is the most critical component of your wallet setup. Without it, access to your funds cannot be restored if the device is lost or damaged. Write it down on paper or use a metal backup solution designed for cryptographic seeds.
2. Never take a photo of the seed, save it in cloud storage, email it, or enter it into any website. These actions expose your assets to theft. The seed must remain offline and physically secure.
3. Consider storing multiple copies in geographically separate locations. For example, one copy in a home safe and another with a trusted family member, though sharing introduces risk and should be done cautiously.
4. After securely storing the seed, the Trezor device will ask you to confirm it again. This step ensures you have accurately recorded the phrase and understand its importance.
5. Once confirmed, the device will be fully operational with your newly generated wallet, tied exclusively to that seed.
Configuring Wallet Settings in Trezor Suite
1. After initialization, Trezor Suite will guide you through naming your wallet and assigning a PIN. The PIN protects physical access to the device and must be entered each time it is used.
2. Choose a PIN that is not easily guessable. Avoid common sequences like '1234' or repeating digits. The device implements progressive delays after failed attempts to deter brute-force attacks.
3. Enable passphrase protection (also known as a 13th or 25th word) if you require additional security layers. This feature allows you to create multiple wallets from the same seed, with different passphrases leading to different account structures.
4. Within Trezor Suite, you can now enable support for various cryptocurrencies. The Model T supports over 1,000 coins and tokens. Toggle on the assets you plan to manage, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, or ERC-20 tokens.
5. Review transaction history, receive addresses, and balance information directly in the interface. All sensitive operations, including sending funds, require confirmation on the Trezor’s touchscreen, ensuring no malware can approve transactions without your explicit approval.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I have multiple wallets on one Trezor Model T?Trezor devices do not store multiple wallets in the traditional sense. However, using passphrase protection, you can generate entirely separate wallet instances from the same recovery seed. Each unique passphrase creates a distinct wallet, invisible unless accessed with that specific passphrase.
What happens if I lose my Trezor but have the recovery seed? You can restore access to all your funds by initializing any compatible hardware wallet with your recovery seed. As long as the seed is intact and correctly recorded, your cryptocurrency remains recoverable regardless of the device.
Is it safe to initialize a wallet on a public computer? No. Always use a trusted, private device with up-to-date antivirus software. Public computers may contain keyloggers or screen capture tools that compromise your seed or PIN during setup.
Can I reuse an old recovery seed on a new Trezor?Yes. During setup, select the 'Recover' option and input your existing seed word by word. The new device will then mirror the wallet structure of the original, giving you access to the same funds.
