How to Send ETH Using MyEtherWallet?
MyEtherWallet is a secure, open-source web wallet enabling users to manage ETH and tokens, deploy/interact with smart contracts, and transact directly on Ethereum—no central authority involved.

Accessing the Send Functionality
1. Navigate to the official MyEtherWallet website at https://www.myetherwallet.com/. Ensure the URL displays a valid SSL certificate and the domain matches exactly—phishing sites often mimic MEW with subtle typos or alternate domains.
2. Select the appropriate network from the top-right dropdown menu. For mainnet ETH transfers, choose “Ethereum Mainnet”. For testing purposes, select a testnet like Sepolia or Holesky.
3. Unlock your wallet using one of the supported methods: Keystore file + password, private key, hardware wallet (Ledger/Trezor), or mnemonic phrase. No credentials are ever transmitted to MEW servers.
4. Once unlocked, the interface displays your public address, ETH balance, and a navigation bar. Click the “Send Ether & Tokens” option to proceed.
Filling Transaction Parameters
1. Enter the recipient’s Ethereum address in the “To Address” field. MEW validates checksums automatically; an invalid or malformed address triggers an immediate warning.
2. Specify the amount of ETH in the “Amount” field. Values can be entered in ETH, Gwei, or Wei—MEW converts them in real time and shows the equivalent in all units.
3. Adjust gas settings manually if needed. By default, MEW suggests gas price and limit based on current network congestion. Users may override these values to prioritize speed or reduce cost.
4. Optionally, add data to the transaction. This field accepts hex-encoded strings and is commonly used for contract interactions or attaching metadata.
Signing and Broadcasting the Transaction
1. After verifying all fields—including recipient address, amount, gas fee, and network—the interface generates a transaction preview.
2. Click “Generate Transaction” to initiate signing. If using a hardware wallet, confirm the details on-device before approving.
3. For Keystore or private key wallets, enter your password or paste the raw private key to authorize the signature locally in the browser.
4. Once signed, MEW broadcasts the transaction to the Ethereum network via connected nodes. A green success banner appears with the transaction hash (TXID).
Verifying Transaction Status
1. Copy the TXID displayed after broadcast and paste it into Etherscan, Blockchair, or any compatible block explorer.
2. Monitor confirmation status: zero confirmations means pending; one confirmation indicates inclusion in a block; six or more indicate high finality.
3. Check the recipient’s balance update timeline. Standard ETH transfers usually reflect within 15–30 seconds under normal network conditions.
4. If the transaction remains pending for over 30 minutes, users may opt to replace it by submitting a new transaction with the same nonce but higher gas price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Can I send ETH to an exchange deposit address without selecting a token type?Yes. ETH transfers use the native chain currency and do not require ERC-20 token selection. Only the recipient’s Ethereum address and amount are necessary.
Q2. What happens if I enter an incorrect gas limit? An insufficient gas limit causes the transaction to revert with “out of gas” error. Excess gas is refunded automatically upon successful execution.
Q3. Does MyEtherWallet store my transaction history? No. MEW does not retain any transaction records. All history is derived client-side from blockchain data queried through public RPC endpoints.
Q4. Why does my transaction show “failed” on Etherscan even though I paid gas? This occurs when the transaction executes but reverts due to internal logic failure—such as insufficient balance, failed require() check, or invalid recipient contract state.
