How to Recover a Wallet in Electrum

1. Install Electrum on a New Computer
Install the latest version of Electrum on a new computer that has not been infected with malware or viruses.

2. Create a New Seed Phrase
When prompted, create a new randomly generated seed phrase (a list of 12 or 24 words) to generate a new master private key. Write down this seed phrase securely and keep it in a safe place.

3. Restore the Wallet

  • Click "File" -> "New/Restore"
  • Enter your seed phrase into the "Restore from seed" field
  • Optionally, you can encrypt your wallet with a passphrase
  • Click "Next"

4. Select Wallet Type (Optional)
If you previously had multiple wallets in Electrum, you may be prompted to choose which wallet you want to restore. If you only had one wallet, you can proceed to the next step.

5. Verify and Synchronize
Electrum will now download the blockchain data and verify your wallet balance. This can take some time, depending on your internet connection and the size of the blockchain.

6. Recover Funds
Once the synchronization is complete, you should see your funds in the Electrum wallet. You can now send and receive Bitcoin from this wallet using your newly generated private key.

Additional Tips:

  • Keep your seed phrase private and secure. It is the only way to recover your wallet if it is lost or damaged.
  • Encrypt your Electrum wallet with a passphrase for added security.
  • Consider using a hardware wallet to store your private keys offline for optimal protection from malware and hacks.
  • Regular safety and backups of your wallet for added peace of mind.
