How to use the "Address Book" on Phantom Wallet? (Contact List)

Phantom’s Address Book lets you manually add, QR-scan, or paste Solana addresses—contacts are local, un-synced, support .sol domains, and auto-fill during sends.

Accessing the Address Book Interface

1. Open the Phantom Wallet extension in your browser or launch the mobile app.

2. Click or tap the hamburger menu icon located in the top-left corner of the interface.

3. Select Address Book from the dropdown or sidebar navigation options.

4. The contact list appears with preloaded entries, including recent transaction recipients and manually added addresses.

Adding a New Contact Manually

1. Within the Address Book view, locate and click the + Add Contact button.

2. Enter a recognizable name for the contact in the “Name” field — this could be a project name, friend’s alias, or exchange label.

3. Paste or type the full Solana-compatible wallet address into the “Address” field, ensuring no extra spaces or characters.

4. Confirm by clicking Save; the entry is now stored locally and encrypted on-device.

Importing Contacts via QR Code or Clipboard

1. While viewing a transaction confirmation screen or receiving a payment request, tap the recipient’s address to reveal a QR code option.

2. Use Phantom’s built-in scanner to capture the QR code — the wallet automatically parses the address and prompts for contact naming.

3. Alternatively, copy any valid Solana address from another application or website.

4. Return to the Address Book, tap + Add Contact, then long-press in the address field to paste.

Editing or Removing Saved Entries

1. Navigate to the Address Book and find the contact you wish to modify.

2. Swipe left on the entry (mobile) or hover and click the three-dot icon (desktop) to open action options.

3. Choose Edit to update the name or address, or select Delete to remove it permanently.

4. Deleted contacts do not affect past transactions or token balances — only future convenience is impacted.

Using Contacts During Transactions

1. Initiate a transfer by clicking Send on the wallet dashboard.

2. In the recipient field, begin typing a saved contact’s name — Phantom displays matching entries in real time.

3. Select the desired contact from the dropdown; the associated wallet address auto-fills without manual input.

4. Proceed with amount entry, fee selection, and signature confirmation as usual.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Are contacts synced across devices?A: No. Phantom does not synchronize Address Book entries between browser extensions and mobile apps. Each installation maintains its own isolated contact list.

Q: Can I export or back up my address book?A: Phantom does not provide an export function. Contacts are stored locally and tied to the wallet’s encrypted storage — they cannot be extracted as a file.

Q: Do contacts support ENS or SOL domain names?A: Yes. When adding a contact, you may enter a valid .sol domain (e.g., alice.sol), and Phantom resolves it to the underlying wallet address at transaction time.

Q: What happens if I rename a contact linked to a smart contract?A: Renaming has no effect on functionality. The wallet address remains unchanged, and all interactions continue to route correctly regardless of label modifications.
