How to use MetaMask with Binance Smart Chain?
Connect MetaMask to Binance Smart Chain by adding custom RPC with Chain ID 56, then acquire BNB for gas to interact with BSC dApps like PancakeSwap.
Aug 28, 2025 at 09:56 pm

Connecting MetaMask to Binance Smart Chain
1. Open your MetaMask wallet and ensure it is updated to the latest version. Navigate to the network selection dropdown located at the top of the interface. If Binance Smart Chain is not listed, you will need to manually add it by selecting “Custom RPC” from the network options.
2. Enter the following details for the Binance Smart Chain mainnet:Network Name: Binance Smart ChainNew RPC URL: https://bsc-dataseed.binance.org/Chain ID: 56Currency Symbol: BNBBlock Explorer URL: https://bscscan.com
3. After entering the information, click “Save”. MetaMask will attempt to connect. Once successful, the network in the top bar will display “Binance Smart Chain”.
4. Confirm that your wallet address remains unchanged. Transactions on Binance Smart Chain use the same address format as Ethereum, so your funds and identity carry over seamlessly.
5. Test the connection by visiting a BSC-based decentralized application (dApp), such as PancakeSwap. Click on “Connect Wallet” and choose MetaMask. Your wallet should appear connected if the setup was successful.
Acquiring BNB for BSC Transactions
1. To interact with dApps on Binance Smart Chain, you need BNB to pay for gas fees. If you’re already on a cryptocurrency exchange like Binance, withdraw BNB to your MetaMask wallet address. Make sure to select the BSC (BEP-20) network during withdrawal to avoid losing funds.
2. In MetaMask, copy your wallet address and paste it into the withdrawal field on the exchange. Double-check that the address matches and the network is BEP-20. Initiate the transfer and wait for confirmation, which usually takes a few minutes.
3. Once received, the BNB balance will appear in your MetaMask under the Binance Smart Chain network. You can now use it to swap tokens, provide liquidity, or participate in yield farming.
4. For users without access to Binance, alternative centralized exchanges such as KuCoin or Gate.io also support BEP-20 withdrawals. Peer-to-peer platforms may also offer BNB in exchange for other cryptocurrencies or fiat.
5. Always keep a small amount of BNB in your wallet when active on BSC. Running out of gas mid-transaction can result in failed operations and lost fees.
Interacting with BSC-Based dApps
1. Navigate to popular BSC dApps like PancakeSwap, Venus, or BakerySwap using a secure browser. Ensure the URL is correct to avoid phishing sites. Bookmark trusted dApps for future access.
2. Click on the “Connect Wallet” button and select MetaMask. A pop-up will appear requesting permission to link your wallet. Confirm the connection without approving any transactions at this stage.
3. Once connected, explore features such as swapping tokens, staking, or yield farming. When initiating a transaction, MetaMask will prompt you to review details including gas fee, recipient, and amount.
4. Approve the transaction only after verifying all information. Transactions on BSC are irreversible. Confirm in MetaMask by signing with your wallet, and wait for blockchain confirmation.
5. Monitor your transaction status via the integrated link in MetaMask or by checking BscScan using your wallet address. Successful transactions will reflect in your wallet balance or the dApp interface.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if my BNB deposit doesn’t appear in MetaMask?
Verify that the deposit was made using the BEP-20 network. If another network like BEP-2 or ERC-20 was used, the funds may not appear. Contact the exchange support with the transaction hash to investigate. Also, ensure MetaMask is set to the Binance Smart Chain network, not Ethereum.
Can I use the same MetaMask wallet for Ethereum and BSC?
Yes. MetaMask supports multiple networks under the same wallet. Switching between Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain only requires changing the network setting. Your private keys and address remain consistent across networks.
Is it safe to connect MetaMask to third-party dApps?
Only connect to well-known and audited dApps. Avoid granting approvals to unknown contracts. Revoke unnecessary token approvals through tools like revoke.cash to minimize risk. Never share your seed phrase with any site.
Why is the Chain ID important when adding BSC to MetaMask?
The Chain ID prevents replay attacks between different blockchains. Using the correct Chain ID (56 for BSC) ensures transactions are valid only on the intended network. Incorrect Chain ID can lead to failed or lost transactions.
