How to use Ledger Nano X with the Solflare wallet? (Solana DeFi)
To connect your Ledger Nano X to Solflare: update firmware, install the Solana app, open it on-device, then select “Ledger” in Solflare and confirm pairing on your Ledger.
Feb 23, 2026 at 03:19 am
Connecting Ledger Nano X to Solflare
1. Ensure your Ledger Nano X firmware is updated to version 2.0.0 or higher. Older versions do not support Solana apps reliably.
2. Install the Solana app on your Ledger device using Ledger Live. Navigate to the Manager tab, enable developer mode if required, and search for “Solana” to install the official app.
3. Open the Solana app on your Ledger Nano X before launching Solflare. The device must be unlocked and display the Solana home screen — otherwise Solflare will fail to detect it.
4. In Solflare, select “Connect Wallet” and choose “Ledger” from the available options. Solflare automatically initiates a handshake with the connected hardware device.
5. Confirm the connection request on your Ledger Nano X by pressing both side buttons simultaneously when prompted. A green checkmark appears on the device screen upon successful pairing.
Accessing Solana Accounts via Ledger
1. After connecting, Solflare displays a list of accounts derived from your Ledger’s Solana app. Each account corresponds to a BIP-44 path: m/44'/501'/0'/0'.
2. You can switch between accounts directly in Solflare’s interface. Each account shows its public key, token balances, and recent transaction history.
3. Solflare does not store private keys — all signing operations occur inside the Ledger Nano X. Every transaction requires physical confirmation on the device.
4. When viewing an account, Solflare fetches real-time balance data from Solana RPC endpoints. Token metadata (e.g., SPL token names and decimals) is pulled from the Solana token list maintained by the community.
5. Account derivation follows Solana’s standard HD wallet specification. Solflare supports up to 10 accounts per Ledger device without manual path configuration.
Signing Transactions Securely
1. Initiate any DeFi action in Solflare — such as swapping tokens on Raydium, staking on Marinade, or lending on Port Finance — and proceed until the final confirmation step.
2. Click “Confirm” to trigger the signing flow. Solflare sends unsigned transaction data to the Ledger Nano X via USB or Bluetooth.
3. Your Ledger Nano X displays the transaction details including recipient address, amount, fee, and program instructions. Review each field carefully on the device screen.
4. Press both side buttons to approve the signature. If any field appears suspicious or malformed, press and hold either button for three seconds to reject.
5. Once signed, Solflare broadcasts the transaction to the Solana network. The status updates in real time, showing “Processing”, then “Confirmed” after sufficient cluster confirmations.
Managing SPL Tokens and NFTs
1. Solflare auto-detects SPL tokens held in your Ledger-linked accounts by scanning associated token accounts on-chain. No manual token addition is needed for standard tokens listed in the Solana token registry.
2. For custom or newly deployed SPL tokens, use the “Add Token” function in Solflare and input the mint address. Solflare validates the address format and queries the token program for metadata.
3. NFTs appear under the “NFTs” tab once detected. Solflare reads metadata URIs stored on Arweave or IPFS and renders thumbnails and attributes directly in the UI.
4. Sending SPL tokens or transferring NFTs always requires Ledger confirmation. The device displays the destination address, token mint, and amount separately — never bundled into a single line.
5. Token approvals for DeFi protocols are treated as separate transactions. Solflare explicitly labels them as “Approve” actions and shows the spending limit and target program ID on the Ledger screen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use the same Ledger Nano X with multiple Solana wallets simultaneously?A: Yes, but only one wallet application may communicate with the Ledger at a time. Switching requires closing the current wallet session and reopening the other.
Q: Why does Solflare show “No accounts found” even though the Solana app is open on my Ledger?A: This occurs if the Ledger’s Solana app is not actively running, or if Bluetooth/USB permissions are blocked on your OS. Restart the app on the device and recheck connectivity.
Q: Does Solflare support Ledger’s hidden derivation paths for enhanced privacy?A: No. Solflare uses only the standard BIP-44 Solana derivation path. Custom paths require third-party tools outside Solflare’s scope.
Q: What happens if I lose my Ledger Nano X but still have my Solflare browser extension backup?A: The browser extension backup is useless without the Ledger device. Solflare does not store or recover Ledger-derived private keys — recovery depends solely on the 24-word seed phrase used to initialize the Ledger.
