How to use a Ledger Nano X with MetaMask mobile? (Hardware Integration)
To use Ledger Nano X with MetaMask Mobile, update firmware, install the Ethereum app, pair via Bluetooth, enable Blind Signing only for obscure tokens, and verify all transaction details on-device.
Feb 20, 2026 at 07:59 am
Setting Up Ledger Nano X for MetaMask Mobile
1. Ensure your Ledger Nano X firmware is updated to version 2.0.0 or higher using Ledger Live.
2. Install the Ethereum app on your device via Ledger Live — this enables EVM-compatible chain support.
3. Enable “Blind Signing” in the Ethereum app settings only if interacting with obscure or newly deployed tokens — disable it otherwise for safety.
4. Pair the Ledger Nano X with your smartphone via Bluetooth: press both side buttons until the Bluetooth icon appears, then confirm pairing in Ledger Live.
5. Open MetaMask Mobile, tap the account avatar in the top-right corner, and select “Hardware Wallet” → “Ledger”. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect.
Connecting Ledger Nano X to MetaMask Mobile
1. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and the Ledger Nano X is unlocked with the correct PIN.
2. In MetaMask Mobile, go to Settings → Security & Privacy → Hardware Wallets → Add Hardware Wallet → Ledger.
3. MetaMask will scan for nearby Ledger devices — tap “Connect” when your Nano X appears in the list.
4. Confirm the connection request on the Ledger’s screen by pressing both side buttons simultaneously.
5. Once connected, MetaMask displays a list of accounts derived from your Ledger’s Ethereum app — select one to import.
Signing Transactions Securely
1. Initiate any transaction (e.g., swap, send, approve) inside MetaMask Mobile as usual.
2. When prompted to sign, MetaMask sends the raw transaction data to the Ledger Nano X over Bluetooth.
3. The Ledger displays the destination address, amount, and gas fee — verify each field carefully before confirming.
4. Press both side buttons to approve the signature — the transaction is signed offline and sent back to MetaMask.
5. MetaMask broadcasts the signed transaction to the network — no private keys ever leave the Ledger device.
Managing Multiple Networks
1. To use networks beyond Ethereum Mainnet, install the corresponding app on your Ledger — e.g., Polygon, Arbitrum, or Avalanche apps.
2. Each supported EVM chain requires its own dedicated Ledger app; they cannot be used interchangeably.
3. In MetaMask Mobile, switch networks using the network selector — the Ledger will automatically load the correct app if installed.
4. If an unsupported chain is selected, MetaMask displays “No compatible app found” — install the required app via Ledger Live.
5. BSC and Fantom require separate Ledger apps — do not rely on the Ethereum app for cross-chain compatibility.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use my Ledger Nano X with MetaMask Mobile on iOS without Ledger Live installed?A: Yes — Ledger Live is only required for initial setup and firmware/app management. Bluetooth pairing and signing work directly between Ledger Nano X and MetaMask Mobile.
Q: Why does MetaMask show “Connection Failed” even when Bluetooth is on?A: This often occurs if the Ledger Nano X is locked, running an outdated firmware, or has Bluetooth disabled in its settings. Restarting the device and re-pairing resolves most cases.
Q: Is it safe to enable Blind Signing for ERC-20 token approvals?A: No — Blind Signing disables on-device verification of contract addresses and calldata. It should only be used as a last resort for tokens not recognized by Ledger’s Ethereum app.
Q: Can I access my Ledger accounts on MetaMask Mobile without syncing balances manually?A: Balances update automatically once connected — MetaMask fetches on-chain data directly from public RPC endpoints, independent of Ledger’s internal state.
