How to use Ledger Nano X with the Keplr wallet? (Cosmos Ecosystem)
To connect your Ledger Nano X to Keplr: update firmware, install the Cosmos app via Ledger Live, enable WebUSB, open Cosmos on Ledger, then connect via Chrome/Edge at wallet.keplr.app.

Connecting Ledger Nano X to Keplr Wallet
1. Ensure the Ledger Nano X device is fully charged and running firmware version 2.0 or higher. Older versions may not support Cosmos-based apps required by Keplr.
2. Install the Cosmos app on the Ledger device using Ledger Live. Navigate to the Manager section, connect the device in bootloader mode if necessary, and search for “Cosmos” to install it.
3. Enable browser support in Ledger Live settings under Settings > Experimental Features > “WebUSB support”. This allows direct communication with Keplr via USB or Bluetooth.
4. Open the Cosmos app on the Ledger Nano X before launching Keplr. The device must display “Cosmos Ready” on its screen to confirm readiness for signing operations.
5. Visit https://wallet.keplr.app using Chrome or Edge browser. Keplr does not function properly on Safari or Firefox due to WebUSB limitations.
Importing Ledger Account into Keplr
1. Click the Keplr extension icon in the browser toolbar and select “Connect Ledger” from the dropdown menu.
2. Choose the appropriate chain — such as Cosmos Hub (cosmoshub-4), Osmosis (osmosis-1), or Juno (juno-1) — depending on where the account is intended to operate.
3. Confirm the derivation path selection. Keplr defaults to m/44'/118'/0'/0/0 for Cosmos-compatible chains. Do not modify this unless explicitly instructed by a specific chain’s documentation.
4. Approve the public key request on the Ledger Nano X screen. A green checkmark will appear after successful verification.
5. Once confirmed, Keplr displays the associated Cosmos address. It appears in the format cosmos1xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and is now ready for use.
Signing Transactions with Ledger Nano X via Keplr
1. Initiate a transaction on a supported dApp — for example, swapping tokens on Osmosis or delegating ATOM on Mintscan.
2. When prompted by Keplr, review all transaction details including recipient address, amount, gas fee, and memo field before proceeding.
3. Click “Approve” in Keplr to forward the signing request to the Ledger device.
4. Verify each field directly on the Ledger Nano X screen. Scroll through using the side buttons and press both simultaneously to approve.
5. Upon confirmation, the signed transaction is broadcasted to the network. The Ledger device displays “Transaction Approved” followed by a brief animation.
Troubleshooting Common Connection Issues
1. If Keplr fails to detect the Ledger Nano X, restart the browser and disable any ad blockers or privacy extensions interfering with WebUSB.
2. Reinstall the Cosmos app on the Ledger device if “App does not support this command” appears during signing attempts.
3. Ensure Bluetooth is turned off when using USB connection — mixing connection methods causes handshake failures.
4. Reset the Ledger device only as a last resort. This erases all private keys and requires restoring from the original 24-word recovery phrase.
5. Check that the system time on the computer is accurate. Time skew beyond five minutes disrupts cryptographic signature validation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use the same Ledger Nano X with multiple Cosmos chains simultaneously?Yes. Keplr stores chain-specific accounts separately. Each chain uses the same underlying Cosmos app on Ledger but derives unique addresses based on chain ID and path.
Q: Why does Keplr ask for permission every time I switch between chains? This is a security feature. Keplr isolates permissions per chain to prevent cross-chain authorization leaks. No persistent access is granted without explicit user action.
Q: Is it safe to enter my Ledger PIN while Keplr is open?No PIN is ever entered into Keplr or any browser interface. The PIN is input exclusively on the Ledger device’s physical screen during unlock or signing steps.
Q: What happens if I lose my Ledger Nano X but still have my 24-word recovery phrase? You can restore full access to all Cosmos accounts by setting up a new Ledger device and reinstalling the Cosmos app. Keplr will recognize the restored accounts once connected.
