How to Import a Private Key into MetaMask

1. Open MetaMask:

  • Go to https://metamask.io/ and download the app for your browser or mobile device.
  • Create a new wallet or log in to an existing one.

2. Click on the Profile Icon:

  • In the top right corner of the MetaMask window, click on the profile icon (circle with an image or initials).

3. Select "Import Account":

  • From the menu, choose "Import Account."

4. Click on "Private Key":

  • Select "Private Key" from the available import methods.

5. Paste or Type Your Private Key:

  • In the "Private Key" field, paste or type your 64-character hexadecimal private key.
  • Check your private key carefully for any errors.

6. Set Password and Confirm:

  • Enter a secure password for your private key.
  • Confirm your password in the "Confirm Password" field.

7. Click "Import":

  • Click on the "Import" button to complete the process.

8. Confirm Account Details:

  • MetaMask will display a confirmation message. Make sure the address, public key, and other account details match what you expect.

9. Backup Your Seed Phrase:

  • Immediately after importing your private key, MetaMask will prompt you to save your seed phrase.
  • Write down or securely store your seed phrase in multiple safe locations.

Additional Notes:

  • Importing your private key gives you full control over your funds. Use this method only if you have a secure backup of your private key.
  • Never share your private key with anyone. If compromised, someone else can access your funds.
  • Keep in mind that MetaMask does not have access to your private key. It is stored securely on your device and is not shared with MetaMask or any third party.
