How to export transaction history from Exodus wallet? (Tax Reporting)

Exodus lets users export full multi-chain transaction history as a detailed CSV—covering sends, receives, swaps, staking rewards, and fees—with fiat values, timestamps, chain names, and grouped swap events for tax reporting.

Apr 21, 2026 at 12:19 am

Exporting Transaction History from Exodus Wallet

1. Open the Exodus desktop application or mobile app and ensure you are logged into the correct wallet instance containing the assets you wish to audit.

2. Navigate to the Portfolio tab, then click the three-dot menu icon located in the top-right corner of the interface.

3. Select Export Transactions from the dropdown list — this option becomes available only after syncing all wallets and confirming full transaction history loading.

4. Choose a date range using the calendar picker; Exodus allows custom start and end dates, including options for “All Time” or predefined intervals like “Last 30 Days”.

5. Confirm export format: Exodus defaults to .csv, which is compatible with tax software such as CoinTracker, Koinly, and TurboTax Crypto.

CSV File Structure and Field Definitions

1. Each exported row represents a single on-chain or off-chain event: sends, receives, swaps, staking rewards, and fee deductions.

2. Columns include Timestamp (ISO 8601), Transaction Type, Asset Symbol, Amount Sent, Amount Received, Fiat Value at Time, Fiat Currency, Transaction ID, Address, and Notes.

3. Swap entries display both input and output tokens in separate rows, preserving atomicity and enabling accurate cost-basis tracking.

4. Staking rewards appear as “Income” type with zero sender address and no associated fee — critical for distinguishing taxable income from capital gains events.

5. The Fiat Value at Time field pulls historical exchange rates from CoinGecko APIs cached at transaction confirmation time, not export time.

Handling Multi-Asset and Cross-Chain Exports

1. Exodus supports exporting transactions across all connected blockchains simultaneously — Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Polygon, Tron, XRP Ledger — in a single unified CSV.

2. When multiple assets are held, each asset’s transactions appear in chronological order regardless of chain, with Chain Name included as a dedicated column.

3. Native token transfers on EVM-compatible chains retain correct Gas Used and Gas Price fields, while non-EVM chains like Solana show Compute Units Consumed instead.

4. NFT mints and transfers are excluded from standard transaction exports unless explicitly enabled via advanced settings under Preferences > Privacy > Include NFT Events.

5. Exchange-initiated swaps involving wrapped tokens — e.g., WBTC to ETH — generate two linked rows marked with identical Group ID values to support matched-event reconciliation.

Tax Reporting Considerations

1. Exodus does not auto-categorize transactions as short-term or long-term holdings; users must calculate holding periods externally using the Timestamp and acquisition date logic.

2. Fiat value fields assume USD denomination by default; manual conversion is required if original purchase was made in EUR, JPY, or other currencies.

3. Missing or mismatched fiat values occur when CoinGecko lacks price data for obscure tokens — these rows contain NULL in Fiat Value at Time and require manual override.

4. Transaction fees paid in native gas tokens (e.g., ETH for Ethereum network) are listed separately and may be deducted as expenses depending on jurisdictional rules.

5. Exodus does not generate IRS Form 8949 or HMRC Capital Gains Summary; exported CSVs serve strictly as source data for third-party tax platforms.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I export transactions filtered by specific asset only?A: Yes. Before clicking Export Transactions, select a single wallet or asset from the left sidebar — the export will then include only that asset’s activity.

Q: Does Exodus include internal wallet transfers in the export?A: No. Transfers between addresses within the same Exodus wallet instance — such as moving BTC from one receive address to another — are omitted unless they trigger on-chain confirmation.

Q: Why do some swap rows show zero amounts in both Sent and Received columns?A: This occurs when the swap fails on-chain but consumes gas; Exodus records the failed interaction with gas expenditure only, marking it as “Failed Swap” in the Type column.

Q: Is there an API endpoint to automate recurring exports?A: Exodus does not expose public REST APIs for transaction exports; automation requires local scripting that parses the exported CSV files post-generation.
