How to Use Exodus Wallet for Beginners? Setup and Usage Guide
Exodus is a self-custodial crypto wallet supporting 277+ chains, offering easy setup, built-in swaps, fiat on-ramps, and robust security—private keys stay on-device, never shared.

Wallet Installation and Initial Setup
1. Visit the official Exodus website at exodus.com and verify the URL displays a valid security certificate—look for the padlock icon and “Exodus” in green text beside the address bar.
2. Select the correct installer for your operating system—Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, or Android—and download directly from the site to avoid counterfeit versions.
3. Run the downloaded file and follow on-screen prompts; no registration or email is required during installation.
4. Upon first launch, choose “Create a New Wallet” instead of restoring an existing one unless you already possess a 12-word recovery phrase.
5. Set a strong password that you will use every time you open the application; this password does not grant access to funds without the recovery phrase.
6. Write down the 12-word recovery phrase on physical paper and store it offline in multiple secure locations; Exodus never stores or transmits this phrase.
Asset Management and Network Support
1. Exodus supports over 277 blockchain networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, TRON, XRP Ledger, and BNB Chain.
2. Assets appear automatically once their native network is enabled—no manual token contract entry is needed for most ERC-20, SPL, or TRC-20 tokens.
3. Click the “+ Add Asset” button to search and activate any supported coin or token; balances update in real time after confirmation on-chain.
4. Custom tokens can be imported manually using contract addresses and decimals—this feature works across Ethereum-compatible chains and Solana.
5. The wallet interface displays live price charts, portfolio allocation percentages, and historical balance trends without requiring external APIs.
Sending and Receiving Cryptocurrency
1. To receive funds, click the “Receive” tab, select a specific asset, and copy the generated address or share the QR code with the sender.
2. Each asset has its own unique address per network—for example, ETH and USDT on Ethereum share the same address, but USDT on Solana uses a different one.
3. To send, click “Send”, paste the recipient’s address or scan their QR code, enter the amount, and review the estimated network fee before confirming.
4. Exodus calculates fees dynamically based on current network congestion and prioritizes transaction speed—users cannot manually adjust gas limits or priority fees.
5. Transaction history is fully searchable and sortable by date, asset type, or status (confirmed/pending/failed).
Built-in Exchange and On-Ramp Features
1. The “Exchange” tab allows direct swaps between supported assets using integrated liquidity providers such as ChangeNOW, Swapzone, and others.
2. Users see real-time exchange rates, slippage tolerance settings, and exact output amounts before committing any trade.
3. Fiat on-ramps support credit/debit card purchases of BTC, ETH, SOL, and other top-tier assets through partnerships with MoonPay and Ramp Network.
4. Purchased assets settle directly into the user’s self-custodial wallet—no KYC data is stored locally, and no account creation is necessary beyond wallet setup.
5. All exchange transactions are non-custodial; Exodus never holds custody of swapped assets during execution.
Security Architecture and Device Sync
1. Private keys remain encrypted and stored exclusively on the user’s device—neither Exodus nor third parties have access to them.
2. Desktop and mobile versions sync wallet state—including addresses, transaction history, and asset preferences—via end-to-end encrypted cloud storage.
3. Syncing does not transmit private keys or recovery phrases; only public metadata and UI configurations are shared.
4. Biometric authentication (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint) is available on mobile devices as an additional layer for unlocking the app.
5. The wallet disables clipboard monitoring and blocks screenshots within sensitive areas like the “Send” and “Recovery Phrase” screens.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use the same recovery phrase across Exodus desktop and mobile apps?A: Yes—the 12-word phrase restores identical wallet state on any Exodus client, regardless of platform.
Q: Does Exodus support hardware wallet integration?A: No—Exodus operates as a software-only self-custodial wallet and does not connect to Ledger, Trezor, or other hardware devices.
Q: What happens if I forget my Exodus password?A: You can still recover full access using the 12-word recovery phrase; the password only protects local app access.
Q: Are NFTs visible and manageable inside Exodus?A: Yes—NFTs on Ethereum, Polygon, Solana, and other supported chains appear under dedicated NFT tabs with preview functionality.
