How to use the Exodus desktop wallet? (Multi-asset management)
Exodus is a non-custodial desktop wallet supporting 200+ cryptocurrencies, enabling secure sending, receiving, swapping, staking, and NFT management—all with local key signing and AES-256 encryption.

Setting Up the Exodus Desktop Wallet
1. Visit the official Exodus website and download the desktop application compatible with your operating system—Windows, macOS, or Linux.
2. Install the application using the default settings; no additional configuration is required during installation.
3. Launch Exodus and select “Create a New Wallet” to begin setup.
4. Write down the 12-word recovery phrase in the exact order displayed; store it offline and never share it with anyone.
5. Confirm the recovery phrase by selecting words in correct sequence to verify your backup is accurate.
Adding and Managing Cryptocurrencies
1. Upon wallet creation, Bitcoin appears automatically as the default asset; other assets can be added manually.
2. Click the “+ Add” button located in the asset list sidebar to open the asset browser.
3. Search for a supported token—Exodus natively supports over 200 cryptocurrencies including Ethereum, Litecoin, Cardano, Solana, and stablecoins like USDC and DAI.
4. Toggle the switch next to each desired asset to enable its display and functionality within the interface.
5. Each enabled asset shows real-time balance, price chart, and transaction history without requiring external API keys.
Sending and Receiving Assets
1. To receive funds, click on an asset, then select “Receive” to generate a unique deposit address and QR code.
2. Copy the address or scan the QR code with another wallet or exchange interface to initiate transfers.
3. To send assets, click “Send”, paste the recipient’s address, enter the amount, and review network fees before confirming.
4. Exodus displays estimated confirmation time and fee tier options—Ethereum users may adjust gas prices directly from the interface.
5. All transactions are signed locally; private keys never leave the user’s device during any send or receive operation.
Swapping Tokens Within Exodus
1. Click the “Exchange” tab to access the built-in non-custodial swap engine powered by multiple liquidity providers.
2. Select source and destination assets from dropdown menus; available pairs update dynamically based on market depth.
3. Enter the amount to swap and view the expected output, slippage tolerance, and estimated network cost before proceeding.
4. Confirm the swap—Exodus constructs and signs the transaction locally, then broadcasts it to the appropriate blockchain.
5. Swaps execute atomically across chains where supported; no third-party custody or KYC is involved in the process.
Security and Backup Features
1. Exodus encrypts wallet data using AES-256 encryption tied to the user’s password; forgetting the password means irreversible loss of access.
2. The 12-word recovery phrase serves as sole method for wallet restoration; it works across all Exodus platforms including mobile and desktop.
3. Private keys remain entirely offline and are never transmitted to Exodus servers or any external service.
4. No seed phrase is ever stored, logged, or synced via cloud—users retain full sovereignty over cryptographic material.
5. Hardware wallet integration with Ledger and Trezor adds optional physical layer protection for signing high-value transactions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I import a wallet created elsewhere into Exodus?A: Yes—use “Import Wallet” and enter the 12-word recovery phrase from another BIP-39 compliant wallet. Private key imports are not supported.
Q: Does Exodus support staking for proof-of-stake assets?A: Yes—staking is available for ADA, SOL, ETH, DOT, and others directly through the Exodus interface with auto-compounding enabled by default.
Q: Are NFTs visible and manageable in the desktop version?A: Yes—NFTs on Ethereum, Polygon, and Solana appear under the “Collectibles” section with preview thumbnails and metadata retrieval.
Q: What happens if I lose my password but still have the recovery phrase?A: You can restore full access by creating a new wallet and entering the 12-word phrase during setup—no password recovery option exists.
