How to Exchange ETH for BTC in Exodus Wallet
Exodus enables secure, non-custodial ETH-to-BTC swaps via integrated aggregators—no KYC under $250, auto-generated BTC addresses, and full local key control.
Nov 01, 2026 at 08:40 pm
Accessing the Swap Feature
1. Open the Exodus desktop or mobile application and ensure your wallet is unlocked using your passphrase or biometric authentication.
2. Navigate to the Swap tab located in the main navigation bar—this is distinct from the Send or Receive functions.
3. Confirm that both Ethereum (ETH) and Bitcoin (BTC) are visible in your asset list; if not, enable them via the Asset Settings menu.
4. Select ETH as the source asset and BTC as the destination asset using the dropdown menus within the swap interface.
Setting Swap Parameters
1. Enter the amount of ETH you wish to exchange in the “From” field—Exodus displays real-time estimated BTC output before confirmation.
2. Review the displayed exchange rate, network fees, and slippage tolerance—these values update dynamically based on integrated liquidity sources including Changelly, 1inch, and Paraswap.
3. Verify the destination BTC address shown below the output field; Exodus auto-generates a fresh receiving address for each swap unless manually overridden.
4. Tap or click “Preview Swap” to load transaction details including gas estimation for ETH withdrawal and BTC deposit confirmation timeframes.
Executing the Transaction
1. After previewing, select “Confirm Swap” to initiate the on-chain approval step—this requires signing an Ethereum transaction to authorize the ETH transfer.
2. Wait for the ETH transaction to receive at least one blockchain confirmation; this typically takes 15–30 seconds under normal network conditions.
3. Once confirmed, Exodus automatically routes the swap through its partnered aggregators and begins BTC delivery to your wallet’s internal BTC address.
4. Monitor the status indicator: “Swapping”, “Waiting for BTC”, then “Completed”—BTC appears in your balance after three confirmations on the Bitcoin network.
Security and Limitations
1. Exodus does not hold custody of funds during swaps; all private keys remain stored locally on your device throughout the process.
2. Minimum ETH input is 0.01 ETH; maximum single-swap volume is capped at 5 ETH depending on liquidity depth across aggregated providers.
3. No KYC is required for swaps under $250 USD equivalent, but transactions exceeding that threshold may trigger third-party identity verification prompts from external providers.
4. Failed swaps due to insufficient gas, price movement beyond slippage, or provider downtime result in full ETH refund to your wallet within two minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does Exodus support direct ETH-to-BTC swaps without converting to an intermediary stablecoin?A: Yes. Exodus executes atomic cross-chain swaps using bridging protocols and wrapped BTC representations where necessary, but final settlement occurs in native BTC.
Q: Can I use my own custom RPC node for the ETH leg of the swap?A: No. Exodus exclusively uses its preconfigured, audited node infrastructure for swap-related Ethereum interactions to ensure consistency and reliability.
Q: Why does the BTC receive address change every time I perform a swap?A: Exodus generates a new, unused BTC address per transaction to enhance privacy and comply with BIP-32 hierarchical deterministic wallet standards.
Q: Is there a way to lock in the exchange rate before signing the ETH approval transaction?A: No. The quoted rate is valid only until the ETH transaction is mined; users must accept live pricing at execution time as rates fluctuate with on-chain liquidity.
