How to Configure Electrum Wallet for Bitcoin Cash (BCH)

Step 1: Install Electrum Wallet

  • Visit the Electrum website: https://electrum.org/#home
  • Download the Electrum wallet for your operating system (Windows, MacOS, Linux).
  • Install the wallet and launch it.

Step 2: Create a New Wallet or Import Existing

  • Choose the "Create a New Wallet" option to generate a new Bitcoin Cash wallet.
  • If you have an existing BCH wallet, select "Import Wallet/Keys."

Step 3: Configure Server Connection

  • Electrum uses servers to connect to the Bitcoin Cash network.
  • Select "Server" from the toolbar and choose a server from the list.
  • Recommended servers for Bitcoin Cash:

    • Electron Cash: electroncash.network
    • Bitcoin ABC: bch.imaginary.cash

Step 4: Configure Bitcoin Cash Settings

  • From the toolbar, select "Tools" > "Preferences."
  • In the "Wallet" tab, ensure "Network" is set to "Bitcoin Cash (BCH)."
  • In the "Addresses" tab, choose "CashAddr" as the address type.

Step 5: Send and Receive Bitcoin Cash

  • To send BCH, click the "Send" button on the main wallet screen. Enter the recipient's address and amount.
  • To receive BCH, share your CashAddr address with the sender. They can send it using any compatible Bitcoin Cash wallet.

Step 6: Backup Your Wallet

  • From the toolbar, select "File" > "Backup."
  • Create a password-protected backup file.
  • Store the backup file in a secure location.
