How to Cancel a Pending Ethereum Transaction with MetaMask1. Prerequisites:
  • Metamask installed as a browser extension or mobile app.
  • Access to the Ethereum wallet where the pending transaction is initiated.
2. Check the Transaction Status:
  • Go to Etherscan.io and input your Ethereum wallet address in the search bar.
  • Click on the "Transactions" tab.
  • Identify the pending transaction by its transaction ID (TXID).
  • Verify that the status of the transaction is "Pending."
3. Cancel the Transaction:
  • Method 1: Increase Gas Fee (Not Recommended)
    • Open MetaMask and connect your wallet.
    • Select the pending transaction and click "Speed Up."
    • Set a higher gas fee to incentivize miners to prioritize your transaction and cancel the pending one.
    • Note: This method is not guaranteed and can be expensive.
  • Method 2: Nonce Replacement
    • Go to your Ethereum wallet and create a new transaction.
    • Set a low gas fee and a nonce that is higher than the nonce of the pending transaction.
    • Send this new transaction.
    • The new transaction will replace the pending one, canceling it effectively.
4. Confirmation:
  • Return to Etherscan.io and check the transaction status again.
  • The pending transaction should now be replaced with a "Replaced" or "Failed" status.
5. Troubleshooting:
  • If the transaction is still pending after performing the cancellation steps, contact the Ethereum network support team for assistance.
  • Check the nonce of the new transaction carefully. If the nonce is lower than the pending transaction, it will not be replaced.
  • Make sure you have enough funds in your wallet to cover the gas fee for the new transaction.
