How to bridge to Arbitrum using Coinbase Wallet? (Ethereum L2)
To access Arbitrum via Coinbase Wallet, update the app, select or manually add Arbitrum One (Chain ID 42161), then bridge ETH from Ethereum—allow 7–20 mins for finality.

Accessing Arbitrum Through Coinbase Wallet
1. Ensure your Coinbase Wallet app is updated to the latest version available on iOS or Android. Older versions may lack support for Arbitrum’s network parameters or token standards.
2. Open the wallet and tap the network selector, usually located in the top-right corner near the balance display. A dropdown or modal will appear listing supported networks.
3. Scroll through the list and select Arbitrum One. If it does not appear, manually add the network using Arbitrum’s official RPC details: RPC URL https://arb1.arbitrum.io/rpc, Chain ID 42161, Currency Symbol ETH, and Block Explorer URL https://arbiscan.io.
4. Confirm the addition. The wallet interface will refresh, displaying your ETH balance on Arbitrum if funds are already present, or showing zero balances awaiting deposit.
Initiating the Bridge from Ethereum Mainnet
1. Navigate to the Send tab within Coinbase Wallet and select the Ethereum (ETH) asset you wish to bridge.
2. Tap the Bridge option instead of Send — this triggers the native Coinbase bridge interface, which supports transfers between Ethereum and Arbitrum One.
3. Enter the amount of ETH to transfer. Note that gas fees on Ethereum mainnet apply, and estimated wait time ranges from 7 to 20 minutes depending on network congestion.
4. Review the transaction summary, including destination network confirmation and fee breakdown. Approve the Ethereum transaction via wallet signature.
5. After confirmation on L1, the wallet displays a pending status. Funds appear on Arbitrum once the state commitment is finalized and the outbound message is executed by the Arbitrum sequencer.
Verifying Receipt on Arbitrum
1. Switch the network selector back to Arbitrum One if not already active.
2. Check the ETH balance — it should reflect the bridged amount minus any internal gas consumption used for the L2 deposit execution.
3. Tap the transaction history icon and filter for Incoming activity. Look for an entry labeled “Deposit” with a matching hash visible on Arbiscan.
4. Paste the L1 transaction hash into Etherscan and locate the corresponding Arbitrum event under the “Arbitrum Bridge” section. Cross-reference the L2 message ID to confirm finality.
Managing Tokens Beyond ETH
1. To bridge ERC-20 tokens like USDC or DAI, ensure they are deployed on Arbitrum and supported by the Coinbase bridge. Not all tokens are enabled by default.
2. Within the bridge interface, toggle the asset selector and choose the desired token. The interface auto-detects token contracts on both chains when available.
3. If a token shows “Not supported”, it means Coinbase has not yet integrated its Arbitrum counterpart. Users must rely on third-party bridges like Across or Synapse for those assets.
4. After bridging non-ETH tokens, manually add them to Coinbase Wallet by selecting “Add Token”, choosing “Custom Token”, and entering the Arbitrum contract address obtained from Arbiscan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I bridge directly from Coinbase.com to Arbitrum using Coinbase Wallet?A: No. Coinbase.com and Coinbase Wallet are separate products. Funds must first be withdrawn from Coinbase.com to an externally owned account (EOA) in Coinbase Wallet before initiating the bridge.
Q: Why does my bridged ETH show as pending for over 30 minutes?A: Delays occur when Ethereum mainnet is congested or when the Arbitrum Nitro upgrade introduces temporary sequencing bottlenecks. Check status.arbitrum.io for ongoing incidents.
Q: Is staking or yield generation possible with bridged ETH on Arbitrum?A: Native ETH on Arbitrum cannot be staked directly. It functions as a base layer currency only. Yield opportunities require wrapping into WETH and deploying via DeFi protocols such as Camelot or Radiant Capital.
Q: Do NFTs bridge automatically when I transfer ETH?A: No. NFTs reside on specific chains and require separate bridging tools. Coinbase Wallet does not support NFT migration to Arbitrum at this time. Use dedicated NFT bridges like Orbiter Finance or LayerZero-compatible dApps.
