How to Add Tezos Mainnet (XTZ) to MetaMask
Introduction
MetaMask is a popular cryptocurrency wallet that allows users to store, manage, and exchange various digital assets. To expand the range of cryptocurrencies supported by MetaMask, users can add custom networks, such as the Tezos Mainnet, to their wallets.
By adding the Tezos Mainnet to MetaMask, users can interact with Tezos-based applications, participate in staking, and manage their XTZ tokens. This guide will provide step-by-step instructions on how to add the Tezos Mainnet to MetaMask.
Prerequisites
- A MetaMask wallet
- Internet connection
Steps
- Open MetaMask: Launch the MetaMask browser extension or mobile app and log in to your wallet.
- Go to Settings: Click on the profile icon in the top-right corner of the wallet interface and select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.
- Add Network: Navigate to the "Networks" tab within the Settings menu and click on the "Add Network" button at the bottom of the page.
Fill in Network Details: A form will appear where you will need to provide the following information:
- Network Name: Enter "Tezos Mainnet" as the network name.
- RPC URL: Paste in the following URL:
https://rpc.tzbeta.net - Chain ID: Input "46" as the chain ID.
- Currency Symbol: Choose "XTZ" as the currency symbol.
- Block Explorer URL (Optional): Enter the following URL as the block explorer URL:
https://explorer.tzbeta.net
- Save: Click on the "Save" button to add the Tezos Mainnet network to MetaMask.
- Go to Main Network: Once the Tezos Mainnet has been added, switch to the new network by clicking on the "Default Network" dropdown at the top of the wallet interface and selecting "Tezos Mainnet".
- Add XTZ Token (Optional): If you do not see XTZ in your wallet, you can add it by clicking on the "Manage Assets" tab within the Settings menu and searching for "XTZ". Click on the "Add Token" button to add XTZ to your wallet.
- Send or Receive XTZ: You can now send and receive XTZ using your MetaMask wallet on the Tezos Mainnet. Make sure to use the Tezos contract address when sending or receiving XTZ to or from external addresses.
Troubleshooting
- Ensure Correct Network Details: Make sure that all the network details you entered during step 4 are correct. If any information is incorrect, it may lead to issues with connecting to the Tezos Mainnet.
- Check MetaMask Version: Verify that you are using the latest version of MetaMask. Outdated versions may not support the addition of custom networks.
- Disable Ad blockers (Optional): If you are using an ad blocker, it may interfere with the RPC connection to the Tezos Mainnet. Disable the ad blocker temporarily while adding the Tezos Mainnet to MetaMask.
- Contact MetaMask Support: If you encounter persistent issues while adding the Tezos Mainnet to MetaMask, contact the MetaMask support team for assistance.
