How to Add Rinkeby Test Network to MetaMask
What is the Rinkeby Test Network?The Rinkeby Test Network is a decentralized network used by software developers to test Ethereum applications before deploying them on the main Ethereum network, preventing any unexpected behavior or errors on the main network.
Why Use the Rinkeby Test Network?- Testing New Features: Developers can experiment with new features without jeopardizing the integrity of the main network.
- Bug and Vulnerability Detection: DApps can be thoroughly tested, uncovering bugs and vulnerabilities that can be resolved before launch.
- Learning and Development: The Rinkeby Test Network provides a safe environment for developers to learn about and interact with Ethereum.
- Install MetaMask
- Visit https://metamask.io/ to download and install the MetaMask browser extension or mobile app.
- Create a MetaMask Wallet
- Click "Create a Wallet" and follow the on-screen instructions to create a new MetaMask wallet.
- Add Custom RPC
- Click the "Networks" tab within MetaMask.
Click "Add Network" and enter the following details:
- Network Name: Rinkeby Test Network
- New RPC URL: https://rinkeby.infura.io/v3/YOUR_INFURA_PROJECT_ID
- Chain ID: 4 (Enter as a decimal value)
- Currency Symbol: ETH
- Block Explorer URL (Optional): https://rinkeby.etherscan.io
- Get Testnet ETH
- Visit https://faucet.rinkeby.io/ to get free testnet ETH on the Rinkeby network.
- Enter your MetaMask wallet address and click "Send me ETH."
- Confirm Network Addition
- Switch to the newly added "Rinkeby Test Network" in the dropdown menu on the top right corner of MetaMask.
- You should see your testnet ETH balance in your wallet.
- Cannot connect to the network: Ensure that your internet connection is stable and try again. If the issue persists, check the RPC URL and ensure that it is correct.
- Insufficient funds: Testnet ETH is required to interact with the Rinkeby Test Network. Get additional testnet ETH from the faucet mentioned above.
- Invalid RPC URL: Double-check the RPC URL provided. It should be in the format: https://rinkeby.infura.io/v3/YOUR_INFURA_PROJECT_ID
- MetaMask extension disabled: Ensure that MetaMask browser extension is enabled in your browser.
- Browser compatibility: MetaMask is compatible with the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Brave browsers.
