How to Add the Monero Mainnet to MetaMask
MetaMask is a popular crypto wallet that supports a wide range of cryptocurrencies and blockchain networks. However, Monero (XMR), a privacy-focused cryptocurrency known for its secure and anonymous transactions, is not natively supported by MetaMask.
To interact with Monero using MetaMask, you'll need to add the Monero mainnet to your MetaMask wallet. This process involves connecting your MetaMask wallet to a compatible Monero network node and configuring the network settings.
Prerequisites
- MetaMask wallet installed on your browser
- Monero network node or RPC endpoint (e.g., getmonero.org, moneroworld.com)
Steps to Add Monero Mainnet to MetaMask:
1. Enable Custom RPC
In MetaMask, navigate to "Settings" -> "Networks" and click on "Add Network."
In the "Add a network" window, fill out the following fields:
- Network Name: Enter "Monero Mainnet" or "XMR Mainnet"
- New RPC URL: Enter the RPC endpoint URL (e.g., "https://xmr.getmonero.org/rpc").
- Chain ID: Enter "3153455334"
- Symbol: Enter "XMR"
- Explorer URL: Enter "https://xmrchain.net/"
- **Select "Save" to add the network.
2. Import or Create a Monero Wallet
Once the Monero mainnet is added, you can import an existing Monero wallet or create a new one. To create a new wallet, click on "Import Wallet" and select "Create a New Wallet."
Set a strong password for your wallet and take note of the seed phrase generated. Store the seed phrase securely as it will allow you to recover your wallet if needed.
3. Send and Receive Monero
After importing or creating a Monero wallet, you can use MetaMask to send and receive Monero.
To send Monero, click on "Send" and enter the recipient's address. Specify the amount you want to send, set the transaction fee, and click "Confirm" to initiate the transfer.
To receive Monero, provide your public Monero address to the sender. They can use any Monero wallet or exchange to send Monero to your address.
4. Interact with Monero dApps (Optional)
If you want to interact with Monero dApps (decentralized applications), you can connect your MetaMask wallet to a compatible Monero dApp.
To connect to a Monero dApp, open the dApp's interface and follow the instructions to connect to your MetaMask wallet. Note that some Monero dApps may require specific configurations or settings to connect through MetaMask.
5. Switch Between Monero Mainnet and Other Networks
Once you've added the Monero mainnet to MetaMask, you can easily switch between XMR Mainnet and other supported networks.
Click on the network name displayed at the top of the MetaMask interface. In the dropdown menu, select the desired network. MetaMask will automatically adjust its settings to match the selected network.
