How to add Elrond Mainnet (EGLD) to MetaMask

Introduction

MetaMask is a popular cryptocurrency wallet used to interact with decentralized applications (dApps) built on various blockchains including Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, and others. Elrond Mainnet (EGLD) is a high-throughput, scalable blockchain platform designed for dApp development. If you own EGLD tokens and wish to use them within MetaMask, you must first add the Elrond Mainnet network to your wallet. Doing so allows you to send and receive EGLD, interact with Elrond-based dApps, and participate in activities within the Elrond ecosystem right from within MetaMask.

Adding Elrond Mainnet to MetaMask

1. Prerequisites:

• Ensure you have installed the latest version of MetaMask on your browser.
• Have your Elrond (EGLD) tokens securely stored in a compatible wallet or exchange.

2. Access MetaMask Settings:

• Click on the MetaMask fox icon on your browser toolbar.
• Select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.

3. Navigate to Network Tab:

• In the left sidebar, click on "Networks."

4. Add Custom Network:

• A form will appear.

5. Enter Network Details:

• Fill in the following information:

  • Network Name: Elrond Mainnet
  • New RPC URL: https://api.elrond.com/erd/v2
  • Chain ID: 1
  • Currency Symbol: EGLD
  • Block Explorer URL: https://explorer.elrond.com/ (Optional)

6. Connect to Elrond Network:

• Once the network details are entered, click "Save."
• MetaMask will automatically connect to the Elrond Mainnet.

7. Verify Connection:

• Check the drop-down menu next to your account balance. It should now display "Elrond Mainnet."

8. Transfer EGLD to MetaMask:

• To transfer EGLD to MetaMask, go to the "Assets" tab.
• Click on "Import Tokens."
• Select "Custom Token" and enter the EGLD contract address: 0x04f224469c3d2277ef969191f426f682b50c79b1
• Enter the amount of EGLD you wish to transfer and click "Add Custom Token."
• MetaMask will now show your EGLD balance.
