How to Add a Custom Token to Coinbase Wallet Using the Contract Address?
To add a custom token in Coinbase Wallet: launch the app, go to Assets → Manage Assets → enable Custom Tokens → tap + → select the correct network → paste the verified contract address → verify metadata and decimals.
Oct 05, 2026 at 11:00 pm
Accessing the Wallet Interface
1. Launch the Coinbase Wallet application on your mobile device or browser extension.
2. Ensure you are logged into the correct wallet account where the token should appear.
3. Tap the Assets tab located at the bottom navigation bar.
4. Scroll to the bottom of the asset list and select Manage Assets.
5. Toggle on Custom Tokens if it is not already enabled.
Entering Contract Address Details
1. Tap the + icon in the top-right corner to initiate manual token addition.
2. Choose Ethereum as the network unless the token resides on another chain like Polygon or Base.
3. Paste the verified contract address into the designated field — accuracy is critical; even a single incorrect character will prevent detection.
4. Leave the Token Symbol and Decimals fields blank initially — the wallet will attempt auto-detection once the address is submitted.
5. Confirm the network matches the token’s deployment environment; mismatched networks result in zero balance display despite correct contract input.
Verifying Token Metadata
1. After submitting the contract address, the wallet fetches metadata from on-chain sources including name, symbol, and decimal precision.
2. If metadata fails to load, manually enter the token’s official symbol (e.g., UNI, LINK) and confirm its decimal count — most ERC-20 tokens use 18 decimals.
3. Cross-check the token’s official documentation or Etherscan page to validate the contract address and decimal value.
4. Avoid entering placeholder names or symbols not associated with the actual deployed contract.
5. Save the entry only after verifying that all fields reflect authoritative on-chain data.
Confirming On-Chain Balance Visibility
1. Return to the Assets screen and wait up to 30 seconds for the new token to populate.
2. If the balance shows 0.00, verify whether the wallet address holds any balance of that token on-chain using Etherscan or Blockchair.
3. Refresh the wallet by pulling down on the asset list — this forces a re-sync with the node backend.
4. Check transaction history in the wallet to see if inbound transfers of the custom token have been indexed.
5. Disable and re-enable Custom Tokens in Manage Assets if the token remains invisible after multiple refresh attempts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I add a token deployed on Arbitrum One using the same process?A: Yes — select Arbitrum One instead of Ethereum before pasting the contract address. The wallet supports multi-chain custom token registration provided the network is correctly selected.
Q: Why does my custom token show “Unknown Token” even after entering the correct contract address?A: This occurs when the wallet cannot retrieve verified metadata from the contract’s public functions (name(), symbol(), decimals()). Some contracts omit these functions or implement them with non-standard signatures.
Q: Is it safe to paste a contract address from an unverified Telegram group?A: No — malicious actors frequently distribute fake contract addresses designed to mimic legitimate tokens. Always obtain contract addresses from official project websites, verified Etherscan links, or audited repositories.
Q: Do I need ETH in my wallet to view a custom ERC-20 token balance?A: No — viewing balances requires no gas. However, interacting with the token (e.g., sending, approving) requires ETH for transaction fees on Ethereum-compatible chains.
