How to Add Counterparty Mainnet (XCP) to MetaMask

Introduction

Counterparty Mainnet (XCP) is a decentralized cryptocurrency and asset issuance platform built on top of the Bitcoin blockchain. Its integration with the popular MetaMask wallet allows users to manage and interact with XCP and Counterparty assets in a convenient and secure way. Follow the comprehensive steps below to add XCP to your MetaMask wallet:

1. Install MetaMask on Your Browser

  • Navigate to the official MetaMask website and click "Download now" to get the browser extension compatible with your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Brave).
  • Follow the prompts to add the extension to your browser.

2. Create a MetaMask Wallet

  • If you are a new user, click "Create a Wallet" and follow the on-screen instructions to create a new wallet. Store your Secret Recovery Phrase securely.
  • If you already have a wallet, click "Import Wallet" and enter your Secret Recovery Phrase.

3. Add the XCP Network

  • Click on the "Networks" dropdown menu in the top-right corner of MetaMask.
  • Select "Add Network" from the menu options.
  • Enter the following network details:

    • Network Name: Counterparty Mainnet
    • New RPC URL: https://xchain.io/rpc
    • Chain ID: 121
    • Currency Symbol: XCP
    • Block Explorer URL: https://blockexplorer.counterparty.io/

4. Add XCP to Your Wallet

  • Click on the "Import Tokens" button in the "Assets" tab.
  • Select "Custom Token" from the options.
  • Enter the following token details:

    • Token Contract Address: 0x46610356d779bfc7b93dfb830c0ea4732578c018
    • Token Symbol: XCP
    • Decimals: 8
  • Click "Add Custom Token" to add XCP to your wallet.

5. Send and Receive XCP

  • To send XCP, click on the "Send" button in the "Assets" tab.
  • Enter the recipient's address, the amount of XCP you wish to send, and the gas fee.
  • Click "Next" to confirm and send the transaction.
  • To receive XCP, share your wallet address with the sender. Once they send the XCP, it will appear in your wallet.

6. Interact with Counterparty Assets

  • Counterparty assets, such as Counterparty tokens and Counterparty bets, are stored on the Bitcoin blockchain but managed through the Counterparty protocol.
  • To interact with these assets, you will need to enable the "Experimental" features in MetaMask.
  • Click on the "Settings" tab and toggle on "Experimental Features."
  • This will enable the "Manage Assets" tab, where you can create, transfer, and manage Counterparty assets.
