How to Add Avalanche Network to MetaMask? Easy Setup Guide
May 13, 2026 at 06:59 pm
Adding Avalanche Network Manually
1. Open MetaMask and click the network selector dropdown in the top-left corner.
2. Select “Custom RPC” from the list of available networks.
3. Enter https://api.avax.network/ext/bc/C/rpc as the New RPC URL.
4. Input 43114 for Chain ID — this is Avalanche’s mainnet identifier.
5. Set Network Name to “Avalanche Mainnet” and Symbol to “AVAX”.
6. Paste https://snowtrace.io/ into the Block Explorer URL field.
7. Click “Save” to confirm and activate the network within your wallet interface.
Verifying Connection Stability
1. After saving, switch to the newly added Avalanche Mainnet in MetaMask.
2. Check if your AVAX balance appears correctly — even zero balances should render without error messages.
3. Attempt to view a known address on Snowtrace using the explorer link you entered; successful loading confirms RPC connectivity.
4. Try initiating a small transaction or interacting with a deployed contract on Avalanche; timeout or “Provider Error” indicates misconfigured RPC or node downtime.
5. If issues persist, revisit the RPC URL and ensure no trailing slash or typo exists — minor syntax errors break full integration.
Using Chainlist for One-Click Integration
1. Navigate to https://chainlist.org/ in your browser.
2. Connect your MetaMask wallet using the “Connect Wallet” button in the top-right corner.
3. Search for “Avalanche” in the search bar and select “Avalanche C-Chain” from results.
4. Click “Add to MetaMask” next to the official entry — this auto-fills all required fields including chain ID, block explorer, and currency symbol.
5. Approve the network addition prompt inside MetaMask and wait for confirmation that the chain has been successfully added.
Handling Common Configuration Failures
1. “Invalid Chain ID” appears when the entered number does not match Avalanche’s canonical value — always verify it is 43114, not 43113 (Fuji testnet) or other variants.
2. “Network Not Found” often stems from an outdated MetaMask version — ensure you are running v10.27.0 or later.
3. Missing token balances may occur if the custom network lacks proper token detection settings; manually add AVAX as a custom token using contract address 0xB31f66AA3C1e785363F0875A1B74E27b85FD66c7.
4. Persistent “Unable to fetch balance” errors suggest RPC node instability — consider switching to alternate endpoints like https://rpc.ankr.com/avalanche or https://avalanche.public-rpc.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use the same MetaMask account on both Ethereum and Avalanche without conflict?A: Yes. Avalanche C-Chain is EVM-compatible and uses identical key derivation paths. Your private keys remain unchanged across chains.
Q: Why does my transaction take longer than expected on Avalanche despite its sub-second finality claim?A: Finality refers to consensus confirmation, not wallet UI updates. Delays usually originate from frontend caching or explorer sync lag, not the underlying network.
Q: Is it safe to input third-party RPC URLs like those from Ankr or Public-RPC?A: These providers are widely audited and used across major DeFi protocols. However, avoid unverified RPCs hosted on personal domains or short-lived subdomains.
Q: Do I need separate gas tokens for Avalanche transactions?A: No. AVAX serves as native gas token on C-Chain. You must hold AVAX in your wallet — not ETH, USDC, or any ERC-20 — to pay for execution costs.
