How to add the Arbitrum mainnet to MetaMask.
By integrating Arbitrum's Layer 2 scaling solution with MetaMask, users gain access to faster transactions and reduced fees, empowering them to engage with decentralized applications and smart contracts on the Arbitrum network seamlessly.

Arbitrum is a Layer 2 scaling solution for Ethereum that offers faster transaction speeds and lower fees. By adding the Arbitrum mainnet to MetaMask, you can interact with decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts built on the Arbitrum network. This guide will provide a step-by-step process on how to add the Arbitrum mainnet to MetaMask.
Step 1: Install MetaMaskIf you haven't already, install the MetaMask browser extension or mobile app. This will allow you to manage your cryptocurrency assets and interact with the Ethereum blockchain.
Step 2: Open MetaMaskOnce MetaMask is installed, open the extension or app and log in to your account. Make sure you have a secure password and have backed up your seed phrase.
Step 3: Add Custom RPCClick on the "Networks" tab in MetaMask. Then, click on the "Add Network" button at the bottom of the page.
Step 4: Enter Arbitrum Mainnet DetailsEnter the following information into the fields provided:
- Network Name: Arbitrum Mainnet
- New RPC URL: https://arb1.arbitrum.io/rpc
- Chain ID: 42161
- Currency Symbol: ETH
- Block Explorer URL: https://arbiscan.io
Once you have entered all the required information, click on the "Save" button. Arbitrum Mainnet will now be added to your MetaMask networks.
Step 6: Add Arbitrum Assets (Optional)If you want to interact with Arbitrum-specific tokens or assets, you will need to add them to your MetaMask wallet. To do this, click on the "Add Token" button and enter the contract address of the asset.
Step 7: Access Arbitrum dAppsWith the Arbitrum mainnet added to MetaMask, you can now access and interact with Arbitrum-based dApps. Simply navigate to the website of the dApp and connect your MetaMask wallet.
Step 8: Transfer Funds to ArbitrumTo transfer funds from Ethereum to Arbitrum, you can use a bridge such as the Arbitrum Bridge or Hop Protocol. These bridges allow you to move funds seamlessly between the two networks.
Additional Information- Arbitrum Rollups: Arbitrum Rollups are a type of scaling solution that bundles transactions together and processes them off-chain, reducing congestion and transaction fees on the Ethereum mainnet.
- Optimistic Rollups: Optimistic Rollups are another type of scaling solution that assumes transactions are valid and processes them off-chain, challenging them only if fraud is detected.
- Layer 2 Networks: Layer 2 networks, such as Arbitrum, are built on top of existing blockchains to improve scalability and reduce transaction costs. They inherit the security of the underlying blockchain while offering enhanced performance.
- Gas Fees: Gas fees are the transaction fees charged on the Arbitrum network. They are typically lower than on the Ethereum mainnet due to the faster processing speeds.
- Arbitrum Explorer: Arbiscan is a block explorer for the Arbitrum network that allows you to view transaction history, contract addresses, and other blockchain data.
