How to stake ETH with Lido on Ledger Live? (Liquid Staking)
Lido enables ETH holders to stake via Ledger Live—earning stETH rewards while retaining liquidity, all secured by Ledger’s offline signing and non-custodial design.

Understanding Liquid Staking with Lido
1. Liquid staking allows ETH holders to participate in Ethereum’s consensus mechanism without locking assets permanently or running validator infrastructure.
2. Lido is a decentralized, non-custodial protocol that issues stETH tokens in exchange for deposited ETH, representing both principal and accrued staking rewards.
3. stETH maintains a near 1:1 peg with ETH and accrues yield continuously, enabling users to retain liquidity while earning staking returns.
4. Ledger Live integrates Lido directly, offering a secure interface for hardware wallet users to initiate and monitor staking operations.
5. The entire process relies on Ledger’s Secure Element chip to sign transactions offline, preserving private key sovereignty throughout the flow.
Prerequisites for Staking via Ledger Live
1. A compatible Ledger device (Nano S, Nano X, or Nano S Plus) with firmware updated to version 2.0 or higher.
2. The Ethereum app installed and opened on the device, with “Contract data” enabled in the app settings.
3. At least 0.01 ETH in the selected Ethereum account to cover gas fees for the staking transaction.
4. Ledger Live desktop or mobile application installed and connected to the device using USB or Bluetooth.
5. An Ethereum address derived from the Ledger device — no third-party seed phrases or custodial imports are required.
Step-by-Step Staking Workflow
1. Open Ledger Live and navigate to the Ethereum account where ETH is held.
2. Click “Stake” under the asset actions menu, then select “Lido” as the staking provider.
3. Enter the amount of ETH to stake, ensuring it meets the minimum threshold (no minimum enforced by Lido, but gas constraints apply).
4. Review the estimated stETH output, annualized yield projection, and network fee before confirming.
5. Approve the transaction on the Ledger device screen using physical buttons — this signs the deposit call to Lido’s smart contract.
6. Wait for block confirmation; stETH tokens appear in the same Ethereum account within minutes, tradable or usable in DeFi protocols immediately.
Managing stETH Post-Staking
1. stETH balances update automatically in Ledger Live every few minutes, reflecting newly minted tokens from reward accrual.
2. Users can view real-time APY, total staked ETH, and cumulative rewards directly in the staking dashboard.
3. stETH can be bridged to other chains via official Lido bridges or swapped for ETH on decentralized exchanges like Curve or Uniswap.
4. Withdrawals are not instant due to Ethereum’s withdrawal queue; unstaking requires waiting for the Shanghai upgrade’s full activation and validator exit timelines.
5. Ledger Live does not support unstaking natively — users must interact with Lido’s interface or third-party dApps to initiate withdrawal requests.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I stake ETH on Ledger Live without installing the Ethereum app?A: No. The Ethereum app must be installed and open on the device to process EVM-compatible contract interactions, including Lido deposits.
Q: Is my stETH balance visible across all Ledger Live accounts if I use the same device?A: stETH appears only in the specific Ethereum account where the deposit occurred. It is not auto-detected in other accounts unless manually added as a custom token.
Q: Does Ledger charge any fee for staking through Lido?A: Ledger does not take a cut of staking rewards. Lido charges a 10% fee on rewards, which is deducted automatically before stETH issuance.
Q: What happens if I lose my Ledger device after staking?A: As long as you have your 24-word recovery phrase, you can restore the same Ethereum account on a new device and regain full control over both ETH and stETH holdings.
