How to Exchange Crypto Inside Exodus Wallet? What Fees Are Charged?
Exodus Wallet offers a non-custodial, built-in swap feature powered by third-party aggregators—no order book, no KYC, and private keys never leave your device.
Aug 04, 2026 at 02:19 am
Exodus Wallet Crypto Exchange Functionality
1. Exodus Wallet integrates a built-in exchange interface powered by third-party liquidity providers including ChangeNOW, CoinSwitch, and SideShift.ai. Users do not interact with a native order book or centralized trading engine but instead route swap requests through these external aggregators.
2. The wallet displays real-time quotes for supported asset pairs, showing expected output amounts before confirmation. Slippage tolerance is pre-set at 1% and cannot be manually adjusted within the current UI version.
3. Swaps execute directly from the user’s non-custodial wallet balance—no deposit to an exchange account is required. Private keys remain under user control throughout the entire process.
4. Transaction history logs each swap with timestamp, input/output tokens, executed rate, and provider identifier. These entries are stored locally and synced across devices when cloud backup is enabled.
5. Multi-chain support extends to Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, Polygon, Avalanche, and BSC. Cross-chain swaps are available only where bridging infrastructure exists between source and destination chains.
Fee Structure Breakdown
1. Exodus does not charge a platform fee for initiating swaps. All fees originate from liquidity providers and underlying network protocols.
2. Each quote includes a transparent breakdown: network gas cost (displayed in native token), provider spread (typically 0.5%–2.5%), and optional instant exchange fee (0.25%) applied when selecting “instant” execution mode.
3. Bitcoin transactions incur UTXO consolidation fees if inputs are fragmented. Exodus automatically estimates optimal fee rates using mempool data from Blockstream and Mempool.space APIs.
4. For Ethereum-based swaps, users can choose between standard, fast, and slow gas tiers. Estimated confirmation times appear alongside each option, derived from real-time Etherscan data feeds.
5. No hidden charges apply to failed swaps. If a transaction reverts due to insufficient funds or price movement beyond slippage, no gas is consumed on-chain and no provider fee is deducted.
Supported Asset Pairs and Limits
1. Over 250 cryptocurrency assets are tradable inside Exodus, including BTC, ETH, SOL, ADA, DOT, AVAX, MATIC, and stablecoins such as USDC, DAI, and USDT across multiple chains.
2. Minimum swap amounts vary per pair: BTC-to-ETH requires ≥0.001 BTC; SOL-to-USDC requires ≥0.1 SOL; stablecoin pairs accept as low as $1 equivalent.
3. Daily swap limits are not enforced at the wallet level, but individual providers impose soft caps based on KYC tier—unverified users may face $500/day ceilings enforced by ChangeNOW’s backend policy.
4. Atomic swaps are not supported. All exchanges rely on custodial liquidity pools; settlement occurs off-chain until final blockchain confirmation.
5. Fiat on-ramps via MoonPay and Ramp Network operate separately from the internal swap engine and require additional identity verification steps.
Security and Custody Implications
1. Private keys never leave the device during a swap. Exodus generates signed transactions locally using its embedded cryptographic library before broadcasting them to public nodes.
2. No seed phrase is submitted to any third party. Provider APIs receive only signed raw transaction data—not mnemonic phrases, passwords, or recovery information.
3. Exodus disables automatic approval of token allowances. Each new token contract requires explicit user consent before permitting transfers, mitigating risk of malicious allowance reuse.
4. WalletConnect v2 integration allows selective session granting to decentralized applications, but exchange functions bypass WalletConnect entirely to preserve deterministic quoting behavior.
5. Transaction signing uses deterministic ECDSA with secp256k1 curves compliant with BIP-32, BIP-39, and BIP-44 standards across all supported chains.
Common Questions and Answers
Q1: Can I swap tokens that aren’t listed in the Exodus asset directory?Exodus only enables swaps for assets already imported into the wallet’s asset registry. Unsupported tokens—such as newly deployed ERC-20 contracts without verified metadata—will not appear in the exchange dropdown menu.
Q2: Does Exodus store my swap history on its servers? No. Swap records are saved exclusively in the local wallet database. They persist only on devices where the Exodus profile is installed and backed up. No telemetry or trade logs are transmitted to Exodus servers.
Q3: What happens if the quoted rate changes before my transaction confirms? If market volatility causes deviation beyond the preset slippage threshold, the transaction fails with a “price impact exceeded” error. Gas is not spent, and no funds are moved from your wallet.
Q4: Are hardware wallet-connected accounts eligible for internal swaps?Yes. Ledger and Trezor devices connected via USB or Bluetooth support full swap functionality. Signing occurs on-device, and Exodus only transmits unsigned transaction parameters for approval.
