How to upgrade my Crypto.com card to the next level
Upgrade your Crypto.com card by staking more CRO to unlock higher cashback, lounge access, and rewards—benefits scale with each tier.

Understanding Crypto.com Card Tiers and Benefits
The Crypto.com card operates on a tiered system, where users can unlock enhanced benefits by upgrading their card level. Each tier offers different perks, including higher cashback rates, airport lounge access, mobile phone insurance, and concierge services. The primary factor determining your eligibility for a higher tier is the amount of CRO (Crypto.com Coin) you stake in the Crypto.com app.
Staking CRO is not just a requirement but a commitment to the ecosystem, and the longer you maintain your stake, the more benefits you receive. The tiers range from Ruby Steel (entry-level) to Obsidian, Jade Green, Royal Indigo, Frosted Rose Gold, and Icy White, with each level demanding a higher CRO stake. For example, upgrading from Ruby Steel to Obsidian requires staking 4,000 CRO for 6 months.
It's important to understand that staked CRO is locked for a predetermined period, and early unstaking may result in penalties or downgrade of your card tier. The cashback rewards are paid in CRO tokens and distributed on the first day of each month for the previous month’s spending. Higher tiers also offer faster cashback settlement and increased spending limits.
Checking Your Current Card Status
Before initiating an upgrade, verify your current card tier and staking status within the Crypto.com app. Open the app and navigate to the 'Card' section. Here, you’ll see your current card design, tier name, and associated benefits.
To review your staking details:
- Tap on 'Rewards' or 'Staking'
- View your current CRO staked amount
- Check the lock-up period and unstaking eligibility date
- Confirm whether you’ve met the staking duration for your desired upgrade
If your staking level is below the threshold for the next tier, you’ll need to increase your staked CRO. The app will often display a progress bar or prompt suggesting how much more CRO to stake for the next level. Ensure your account is fully verified and your card is activated before proceeding.
Increasing Your CRO Stake for Upgrade Eligibility
To upgrade your card, you must increase your staked CRO to meet the next tier’s requirement. Begin by purchasing additional CRO if you don’t already own enough. You can buy CRO directly in the app using a bank card, bank transfer, or by swapping other cryptocurrencies.
Once you have sufficient CRO:
- Go to the 'Staking' section in the app
- Select 'Increase Stake'
- Choose the target card tier you wish to achieve
- Enter the amount of CRO required for that tier
- Confirm the transaction using your app PIN or biometric authentication
The system will deduct the additional CRO from your wallet and add it to your existing stake. If you’re moving from a lower tier, the app may prompt you to extend your staking period to qualify for higher tiers, which often require a 6-month minimum. After confirmation, your new staking amount will be reflected immediately, but the card upgrade may take up to 48 hours to process.
Note: You cannot partially stake. You must meet the full CRO requirement for the next tier. For example, if you’re at 2,000 CRO (Jade Green) and want to reach Royal Indigo (8,000 CRO), you must stake an additional 6,000 CRO in one transaction.
Activating Your Upgraded Card
After successfully increasing your stake, the system will begin processing your upgrade. During this time:
- Your physical card may need to be replaced if the new tier includes a different design
- The app will notify you when your new card is ready for dispatch
- You’ll receive an email with tracking details if a new card is being shipped
If you're using a virtual card, the upgrade takes effect immediately, and you can start enjoying higher cashback and benefits right away. For physical cards:
- Wait for delivery of the new card
- Once received, open the Crypto.com app
- Go to 'Card' > 'Manage Card' > 'Activate New Card'
- Follow the on-screen prompts to verify and activate
After activation, your old card will be automatically deactivated. All linked payment services (Apple Pay, Google Pay) must be updated with the new card details. To do this:
- Remove the old card from your digital wallet
- Add the new card using the 16-digit number, CVV, and expiry date from the app
- Complete verification if prompted
Monitoring Rewards and Usage After Upgrade
Once upgraded, your cashback rate will increase based on your new tier. For example, Obsidian offers up to 8% cashback on purchases, compared to 2% on Ruby Steel. These rewards are calculated monthly and paid in CRO.
To monitor your rewards:
- Visit the 'Rewards' tab in the app
- View monthly cashback breakdown by category (e.g., dining, groceries)
- Check the estimated payout date and amount
- Ensure your CRO wallet has sufficient space to receive rewards
Spending limits also increase with higher tiers. Icy White, the highest tier, allows up to $100,000 monthly spending. Monitor your spending through the app’s transaction history to maximize cashback. Use the card regularly to maintain activity and avoid inactivity fees.
If you plan international travel, higher-tier cards include Priority Pass lounge access. To use this:
- Tap 'Benefits' in the app
- Select 'Airport Lounge Access'
- Generate your lounge access code
- Present the code and your physical/virtual card at participating lounges
Troubleshooting Common Upgrade Issues
Sometimes, users face delays or errors during the upgrade process. If your tier doesn’t update after staking:
- Ensure the staking period matches the tier requirement (e.g., 6 months for top tiers)
- Confirm that your account is KYC-verified
- Check for pending transactions or insufficient CRO balance during staking
If your new card doesn’t arrive:
- Verify the shipping address in your profile
- Contact Crypto.com support via in-app chat
- Request a reshipment if the card is lost
For cashback not reflecting:
- Confirm you’ve met the minimum spending requirement
- Ensure your CRO wallet is active
- Wait until the first day of the following month, as rewards are not instant
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I downgrade my card tier after upgrading?Yes, you can downgrade by reducing your staked CRO. However, this requires initiating an unstake request in the app. The process takes 90 to 180 days depending on your original staking period. Once unstaked, your card benefits and cashback rates will adjust to the lower tier.
Does staking more CRO than required give extra benefits? No. Benefits are tied strictly to tier thresholds. Staking 5,000 CRO qualifies you for Obsidian, the same as 4,000 CRO. Excess staked CRO does not unlock additional perks beyond the tier’s defined package.
What happens if I unstake early?Early unstaking triggers an automatic downgrade to a lower tier based on your remaining stake. You may lose access to benefits like lounge access or phone insurance. Some tiers impose unstaking penalties, reducing the amount of CRO returned.
Can I upgrade without a physical card?Yes. The virtual card can be upgraded solely through staking. Virtual card users receive the same cashback rates and digital benefits. Physical card perks (e.g., metal design, concierge) are only available with a shipped card.
