How to transfer assets between my Main and Trading account on KuCoin?
KuCoin’s dual-account system separates funds into Main and Trading accounts, requiring manual transfers for trading while keeping assets secure and instantly movable.

Understanding KuCoin Account Structure
1. KuCoin operates with a dual-account system that separates user funds into a Main Account and a Trading Account. The Main Account serves as the primary wallet for deposits, withdrawals, and holding assets. The Trading Account is where active trading takes place across spot, margin, futures, and other markets.
2. Assets in the Main Account are not automatically available for trading. Users must manually transfer funds between these two compartments based on their trading needs. This separation enhances security by limiting exposure of deposited assets directly to market risks.
3. Transfers between accounts occur instantly and do not incur any fees. There is no blockchain transaction involved since the movement happens within the same exchange environment under the user’s control.
4. Each cryptocurrency has its own balance in both accounts. For example, if you hold USDT in your Main Account, you will need to transfer it specifically to the USDT Trading Account balance before placing orders on spot pairs like BTC/USDT.
5. The interface clearly displays both balances side by side, allowing users to monitor how much is allocated for trading versus what remains in reserve. This visibility helps traders manage risk and maintain liquidity without overexposing capital.
Step-by-Step Transfer Process
1. Log in to your KuCoin account through the web platform or mobile application. Navigate to the 'Assets' section, where you’ll see an overview of your holdings across both accounts.
2. Locate the specific cryptocurrency you wish to move. Click on the “Transfer” button next to that asset. A pop-up window will appear with options to select source and destination accounts.
3. Choose whether you want to transfer from Main to Trading or vice versa. Enter the amount you intend to move. KuCoin allows partial transfers, so you can shift only a portion of your balance.
4. Confirm the details including the coin type, amount, and direction of transfer. After verification, click “Confirm” to execute the action. No email or SMS confirmation is required unless 2FA settings mandate additional steps.
5. Once completed, the updated balance will reflect immediately in the target account. You can verify this by checking the respective balance display or reviewing the transfer history log under the same menu.
Managing Multiple Trading Sub-Accounts
1. KuCoin supports multiple trading sub-accounts for different markets—Spot, Futures, Margin, and Isolated Leverage. When transferring funds, users must specify not only the main/trading switch but also the exact trading segment.
2. For instance, moving USDT to trade perpetual contracts requires selecting “Futures Account” as the destination rather than the generic Trading Account. Misdirected transfers may delay access to desired markets.
3. Switching between sub-accounts is done via dropdown menus during the transfer process. Always double-check the selected destination to avoid operational errors.
4. To move funds from Futures back to Main, follow the same path: go to Assets > Transfer > Select source as Futures Account and destination as Main Account. These internal movements remain instantaneous.
5. Transfers between sub-accounts do not affect open positions or ongoing trades. Closing a position in Futures releases funds back to the Futures wallet, which still requires manual transfer to Main if withdrawal is intended.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I automate transfers between my Main and Trading accounts? KuCoin does not currently offer automated recurring transfers. Every movement must be initiated manually through the interface or API. Advanced users can set up scripts using KuCoin’s public API endpoints to trigger transfers based on custom conditions.
Are there limits on how much I can transfer at once? While there are no fixed limits imposed by KuCoin for internal transfers, unusually large movements may trigger security reviews. Accounts with higher verification tiers generally experience fewer restrictions compared to unverified ones.
What happens if I try to transfer a coin that isn’t supported in the Trading Account? Only tradable assets listed on KuCoin’s markets can be moved to the Trading Account. Attempting to transfer non-supported tokens results in an error message. Such assets remain safely in the Main Account until delisted or added for trading.
Do internal transfers appear on the blockchain? No. Internal transfers between Main and Trading accounts are ledger adjustments within KuCoin’s system. They do not generate blockchain transactions, meaning no network fees apply and no external record is created.
