How to Set a Kraken Price Alert for a Specific Altcoin Trading Pair?
Kraken’s price alerts work server-side for spot pairs only, support up to 15 concurrent alerts (Pro tier), enforce tick-size precision, and lack API access—no futures or technical-condition triggers.
Oct 01, 2026 at 06:59 am
Accessing the Kraken Dashboard
1. Log in to your Kraken account using verified credentials and two-factor authentication.
2. Navigate to the “Trade” section from the top navigation bar to enter the trading interface.
3. Locate the search bar labeled “Search markets” and type the exact ticker symbol of the altcoin, such as “SOL” or “AVAX”, followed by the base currency—commonly “USD”, “EUR”, or “USDT”.
4. Select the corresponding trading pair from the dropdown list to load its real-time order book and chart view.
5. Confirm that the selected pair is active and supported for price alerts by checking the asset’s status on Kraken’s official support page or asset listing dashboard.
Enabling Price Alert Functionality
1. Click the bell icon located in the upper-right corner of the chart window, adjacent to the time-interval selector.
2. A modal window titled “Price Alerts” will appear; ensure it is not blocked by browser pop-up filters.
3. Enter the target price level manually—this value must be within the current 24-hour price range or fall within Kraken’s permissible deviation threshold.
4. Choose the alert trigger condition: “Above” or “Below” the specified price point.
5. Select notification preferences: email only, SMS (if enabled), or both. Push notifications require the Kraken mobile app and active permissions.
Managing Active Altcoin Alerts
1. Return to the “Price Alerts” modal and click “View all alerts” to open the full alert management panel.
2. Each configured alert displays the trading pair, target price, condition type, and status—“Active”, “Triggered”, or “Expired”.
3. Hover over any row to reveal action icons: edit, disable, or delete. Editing allows adjustment of price level or condition without canceling the alert.
4. Disabled alerts retain their configuration and can be reactivated with one click, preserving historical trigger logs.
5. Triggered alerts generate a timestamped entry in the “Alert History” tab, including the exact UTC time and executed notification method.
Technical Constraints and Limitations
1. Price alerts are unavailable for delisted or suspended trading pairs—even if previously configured.
2. Kraken does not support compound conditions such as “if SOL/USD rises 5% within 10 minutes and volume exceeds $20M”.
3. Alerts based on moving averages, RSI thresholds, or candlestick patterns are not natively supported and require third-party integrations.
4. Free-tier accounts are limited to five concurrent alerts; Kraken Pro users may configure up to fifteen.
5. Alerts triggered during scheduled maintenance windows may experience delays of up to 90 seconds due to backend queue prioritization.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Can I set a price alert for a margin trading pair like XRP/USD on Kraken Futures? No. Kraken price alerts apply exclusively to spot market trading pairs. Futures contracts, perpetual swaps, and margin-enabled spot pairs are excluded from this feature.
Q2. Why does my alert show “Invalid price” when I enter 0.00012345 for ADA/USD?Kraken enforces minimum tick size rules per pair. For ADA/USD, the allowed precision is four decimal places. Entering more than four digits after the decimal triggers validation failure.
Q3. Do price alerts work when my Kraken session is inactive or logged out?Yes. Alerts operate server-side and do not depend on browser state or active login sessions. Notifications are dispatched independently once conditions are met.
Q4. Is there an API endpoint to programmatically create or list price alerts? No. Kraken does not expose price alert management through its public or private REST or WebSocket APIs. All configurations must occur via the web or mobile UI.
