How to set up Bybit sub-accounts? (Asset management)

Bybit sub-accounts enable secure, isolated trading across spot, futures, and options—each with independent balances, API keys, and permissions, all under one KYC-verified master account.

Understanding Bybit Sub-Accounts

1. Bybit sub-accounts are auxiliary accounts linked to a primary Bybit account, enabling users to separate funds, manage risk, and allocate capital across distinct trading strategies.

2. Each sub-account operates with its own balance, API keys, and permission settings, yet shares the same KYC verification as the main account.

3. Sub-accounts support spot, futures, and options trading depending on the permissions granted by the master account holder.

4. Asset isolation is enforced at the wallet level—deposits and withdrawals made to or from a sub-account do not automatically affect the main account’s balance.

5. The master account retains full control over fund transfers, permission assignments, and sub-account deletion via the Asset Management interface.

Navigating the Asset Management Dashboard

1. Log in to your Bybit main account and hover over the profile icon in the top-right corner to access Asset Management.

2. Click on Sub-Accounts to view existing sub-accounts or initiate creation.

3. The dashboard displays real-time balances, equity distribution, and transfer history across all linked sub-accounts.

4. Users can filter sub-accounts by type—such as Trading, API, or Funding—to streamline oversight.

5. A dedicated audit log records every action taken: creation, fund movement, permission updates, and deletion events.

Creating and Configuring a New Sub-Account

1. Within the Sub-Accounts section, click Create Sub-Account and assign a unique name that reflects its purpose—e.g., “BTC-Arbitrage” or “ETH-Staking”.

2. Select the trading module access: enable or disable spot, linear futures, inverse futures, or options based on intended usage.

3. Choose whether the sub-account should inherit API key restrictions or require independent key generation.

4. Set initial transfer limits for deposits and withdrawals to enforce internal compliance thresholds.

5. Confirm creation—the system generates a new sub-account ID instantly, visible only to the master account holder.

Fund Transfers Between Main and Sub-Accounts

1. Initiate transfers by selecting Transfer Funds next to the target sub-account entry.

2. Specify asset type, amount, and direction—either Main → Sub or Sub → Main.

3. Transfers execute instantly within Bybit’s internal ledger; no blockchain confirmation or network fee applies.

4. Each transaction triggers an email notification and appears in both the main and sub-account transaction histories.

5. Transfer history supports CSV export for reconciliation with external accounting tools or tax reporting frameworks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can a sub-account withdraw funds directly to an external wallet?A: No. Withdrawals must first be transferred to the main account, which holds withdrawal privileges. Sub-accounts cannot initiate off-platform transfers.

Q: Are sub-accounts visible to third parties when using shared API keys?A: API keys generated for a sub-account only grant access to that specific sub-account’s data and functions. They do not expose the main account or other sub-accounts.

Q: Does each sub-account require separate KYC verification?A: No. All sub-accounts inherit the KYC status of the main account. Upgrading KYC on the master account automatically extends enhanced limits to all sub-accounts.

Q: What happens to open positions if a sub-account is deleted?A: Deletion is prohibited while open positions, pending orders, or unsettled margin remain. Users must close all active trades and settle balances before initiating deletion.
