How to Send Crypto on Coinbase: A Beginner's Tutorial
Always double-check recipient addresses and send a small test transaction first—once confirmed, crypto transfers cannot be reversed.

Getting Started with Coinbase Wallet
1. Access your Coinbase account through the official website or mobile application. Ensure that two-factor authentication is enabled to protect your funds and personal information.
2. Navigate to the 'Wallet' section where all your cryptocurrency balances are displayed. Select the specific digital asset you wish to send, such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any other supported token.
3. Click on the “Send” button located next to the balance of the selected cryptocurrency. This action will open a new window where you can enter the recipient’s wallet address.
4. Verify that your Coinbase account has sufficient balance not only in the crypto being sent but also in a stablecoin or ETH for network transaction fees if required by the blockchain.
5. Make sure your internet connection is secure and avoid using public Wi-Fi when handling transactions involving private keys or sensitive financial operations.
Entering Recipient Details and Amount
1. In the send interface, input the recipient’s public wallet address carefully. A single incorrect character can result in irreversible loss of funds.
2. Use copy-paste instead of manual typing to minimize errors when transferring long alphanumeric addresses. Double-check the first and last few characters after pasting.
Always send a small test transaction before transferring large amounts to confirm the address is valid and functional.3. Enter the amount of cryptocurrency you want to transfer. The platform allows switching between fiat value (like USD) and the crypto equivalent for clarity.
4. Review the estimated network fee displayed below the amount field. Fees vary depending on blockchain congestion and the urgency of confirmation desired.
5. Adjust the transaction speed if options are available—some networks allow users to choose between slow, medium, or fast processing times with corresponding fee adjustments.
Confirming and Finalizing the Transfer
1. After entering all details, click “Continue” or “Preview Send” to see a summary of the transaction including the destination address, amount, and total fees.
2. Carefully recheck every detail shown in the preview screen. Mistakes at this stage cannot be undone once confirmed.
Once a crypto transaction is broadcasted to the blockchain, it cannot be canceled or reversed under any circumstances.3. Confirm the transaction using your chosen authentication method—this could be a 6-digit code from your authenticator app, email verification, or biometric login like fingerprint or face recognition.
4. Wait for the transaction to be processed by the network. You can track its status via the transaction ID (TXID), which Coinbase provides after submission.
5. Notify the recipient to check their wallet once the transaction shows as pending. Delays may occur due to high network traffic or insufficient gas fees on certain chains.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if I send crypto to the wrong address?Transactions on the blockchain are irreversible. If you send funds to an incorrect or invalid address, there is no way to recover them unless the owner of the receiving wallet voluntarily returns the assets.
Can I cancel a crypto transaction after sending it?No. Once a transaction is confirmed and broadcasted to the blockchain network, it cannot be canceled. Always double-check recipient addresses and amounts before final confirmation.
Why does my transaction show as pending for a long time?Pending status usually indicates low network fees relative to current congestion levels. During peak usage, higher fees prioritize faster confirmations. Some blockchains experience longer delays than others based on design and throughput capacity.
Does Coinbase charge extra fees beyond the network cost?Yes. In addition to standard blockchain network fees, Coinbase applies a service fee that varies based on payment method, location, and transaction size. These fees are clearly outlined before confirming any send action.
