How to sell my crypto on Coinbase and cash out to my linked bank account?
To sell crypto on Coinbase, log in, go to Trade, select your coin, enter the amount, review fees and price, then confirm—USD appears instantly in your wallet.

Selling Cryptocurrency on Coinbase
1. Log in to your Coinbase account via the official website or mobile application. Ensure two-factor authentication is active for security.
2. Navigate to the Trade section and select the cryptocurrency you wish to sell from your portfolio balance.
3. Choose the Sell option and enter the amount of crypto you want to convert into fiat currency. You may input either a specific crypto quantity or a USD value.
4. Review the current market price, estimated USD proceeds, and applicable fees before confirming the transaction.
5. Click Confirm Sell. The sale executes instantly at the prevailing market rate, and the equivalent USD amount appears in your Coinbase USD wallet immediately.
Withdrawing Funds to a Linked Bank Account
1. Go to the Accounts tab and locate your USD Wallet. Verify that the sold amount is reflected in the available balance.
2. Select Withdraw and choose your linked bank account from the dropdown list. Only verified and previously added U.S. bank accounts appear here.
3. Enter the exact USD amount you wish to transfer. Note that withdrawal limits depend on your account verification level and recent activity.
4. Confirm the withdrawal using your two-factor authentication method—either SMS code, authenticator app, or hardware key.
5. Processing begins immediately. Standard ACH transfers typically settle within 1–3 business days. Instant card withdrawals are not supported for bank cashouts.
Verification and Account Requirements
1. Your Coinbase account must be fully verified with identity documents including government-issued photo ID and proof of address.
2. The bank account must be held in your legal name and match the name on your Coinbase profile. Joint accounts or business accounts are not accepted for personal accounts.
3. You must have completed the bank linking process prior to initiating any withdrawal. This includes micro-deposit verification if required by your financial institution.
4. Coinbase enforces daily, weekly, and monthly withdrawal limits based on account tier. Higher tiers require additional documentation such as tax forms or source-of-funds statements.
5. Failed or reversed withdrawals due to incorrect routing or account details may trigger temporary holds until resolved through support channels.
Fees and Transaction Timing
1. Selling crypto incurs a spread-based fee plus a fixed or percentage-based trading fee depending on your region and trade size.
2. Bank withdrawals via ACH carry no fee for standard processing, but expedited options like wire transfers incur a flat $25 fee.
3. Market volatility during sale execution may cause minor discrepancies between previewed and final USD amounts, especially for large orders.
4. Weekends and U.S. federal holidays extend ACH settlement timelines. Transactions initiated after 6 p.m. ET on weekdays are processed the following business day.
5. Pending withdrawals appear under Activity with real-time status updates: “Processing”, “Sent”, or “Completed”.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I withdraw funds to a bank account not in my name? No. Coinbase only permits withdrawals to bank accounts registered under the exact legal name associated with your verified identity.
Q: Why is my withdrawal still showing as “Processing” after three business days? Delays may stem from bank-side holds, incorrect routing numbers, or account freezes triggered by unusual activity. Contact Coinbase Support with your transaction ID for investigation.
Q: Is it possible to cancel a withdrawal once confirmed? Withdrawals cannot be canceled after confirmation. Once initiated, the transaction enters the banking network and follows standard ACH protocols.
Q: Do I need to report crypto sales to the IRS even if I don’t withdraw the funds? Yes. Any taxable event—including selling crypto for USD—must be reported regardless of whether the proceeds remain in your Coinbase USD wallet.
