How to use OKX Smart Account? (Account abstraction)
OKX Smart Account is an ERC-4337–compliant, AA-powered wallet offering gasless transactions, social recovery, session keys, and intuitive DeFi UX—no private key management required.

What Is OKX Smart Account?
1. OKX Smart Account is a wallet built on account abstraction (AA) principles, enabling users to interact with blockchain applications using familiar web2-style UX patterns.
2. It abstracts away private key management by leveraging smart contract logic to handle transaction signing, recovery, and permissions.
3. The account supports gasless transactions through sponsorships, allowing users to pay fees in tokens other than the native chain currency.
4. It integrates session keys, which grant temporary access to dApps without exposing long-term signing authority.
5. Each Smart Account is deployed as an ERC-4337-compliant contract wallet on EVM-compatible chains including Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Base.
Setting Up Your Smart Account
1. Access OKX Wallet app or browser extension and select “Create Smart Account” instead of standard EOA wallet creation.
2. Choose your preferred network and confirm deployment — the system automatically deploys the contract wallet with pre-configured security modules.
3. Set up social recovery options such as email or connected Web2 accounts; these serve as fallback mechanisms for key regeneration.
4. Configure default fee token preferences, specifying whether USDC, ETH, or stablecoin should be used for gas payments across supported chains.
5. Enable biometric authentication on mobile devices to authorize transactions directly from the device’s secure enclave.
Transaction Signing & Execution
1. When initiating a swap or NFT mint, the Smart Account bundles multiple operations into a single user operation (UserOp), reducing complexity and cost.
2. Instead of raw signature prompts, users approve actions via intuitive UI modals showing exact asset movements, slippage, and estimated fees.
3. The Smart Account automatically selects optimal bundlers and paymasters based on real-time network conditions and fee efficiency.
4. Multi-step DeFi flows — like depositing into Aave then borrowing against it — are executed atomically without requiring separate confirmations.
5. Users can pause or revoke pending UserOps before inclusion, adding a layer of control not available in traditional EOAs.
Security Features & Risk Mitigation
1. Session keys are issued per dApp and bound to time windows and action scopes, preventing unauthorized reuse or over-permissioning.
2. Recovery modules allow trusted contacts or decentralized identity providers to initiate wallet reset after a customizable cooldown period.
3. Transaction simulation runs client-side before submission, highlighting potential reentrancy risks or unexpected token approvals.
4. Rate-limiting rules prevent rapid-fire transfers, especially useful against compromised session credentials or phishing interfaces.
5. All Smart Account logic is open-source and audited by third-party firms including CertiK and OpenZeppelin.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I migrate my existing EOA balance to a Smart Account?A: Yes. OKX provides a one-click migration tool that transfers assets and wraps them into the new contract wallet while preserving associated NFTs and token allowances.
Q: Do I need to hold native gas tokens to use Smart Account features?A: No. Paymaster integrations let you pay fees in USDC, DAI, or other supported stablecoins on chains where gas sponsorship is enabled.
Q: Is my Smart Account address the same across all chains?A: No. Each deployment is chain-specific due to EVM execution environment isolation, though cross-chain address derivation follows deterministic standards.
Q: Can I use hardware wallets with OKX Smart Account?A: Not directly for signing, but Ledger and Trezor devices can manage the underlying recovery seed used to regenerate the Smart Account’s owner key if needed.
