How to manage trusted devices on Coinbase? (Account security)
A trusted device on Coinbase is one where you’ve completed 2FA and opted to “Trust this device for 30 days”—bypassing repeated prompts, but still requiring your password after clearing cookies.

Understanding Trusted Devices
1. A trusted device is any hardware or browser where you've successfully completed two-factor authentication and confirmed your identity during login.
2. Coinbase automatically marks the device as trusted for a defined period, typically 30 days, unless manually revoked.
3. Trust status applies separately to web browsers and mobile applications—even if you trust a phone via the app, the same device’s Chrome browser remains untrusted until separately verified.
4. Trusted devices bypass repeated SMS or authenticator prompts but still require password entry on first access after clearing cookies or cache.
5. The system does not store biometric data; fingerprint or face ID usage remains local to the device and never transmits to Coinbase servers.
Viewing Your Current Trusted Devices
1. Log in to your Coinbase account using verified credentials and complete two-factor verification.
2. Navigate to Settings > Security > Device Management to see an active list of all recognized devices.
3. Each entry displays device type (e.g., “iPhone 14”, “Windows Chrome”), last seen timestamp, and location inferred from IP geolocation.
4. You cannot view MAC addresses or IMEI numbers—Coinbase intentionally omits granular hardware identifiers for privacy compliance.
5. Devices marked “Recently added” appear at the top, while those inactive for over 90 days are flagged with a grayed-out label.
Removing a Trusted Device
1. From the Device Management page, locate the device you wish to revoke and click the trash icon next to its entry.
2. Confirm removal by entering your current account password—not your 2FA code or passphrase.
3. Revocation takes effect instantly; the device will require full re-authentication on next login attempt.
4. You may remove multiple devices simultaneously by selecting checkboxes and clicking “Remove selected”.
5. No email notification is sent upon removal unless your account has security alerts enabled under Notifications settings.
Adding New Trusted Devices
1. Initiate login from the new device using your registered email and password.
2. Complete the second factor step using your authenticator app, SMS, or hardware security key.
3. Check the box labeled “Trust this device for 30 days” before finalizing login—this option appears only after successful 2FA.
4. If the checkbox is missing, your account may have enhanced security policies enabled, such as mandatory 2FA on every session.
5. After trusting, the device appears in Device Management within 60 seconds, even if the page hasn’t been refreshed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does revoking a trusted device log me out of that device? No. Revocation only prevents future automatic access—it does not terminate active sessions or force logout.
Q: Can I trust more than five devices at once?Yes. Coinbase imposes no hard limit on the number of trusted devices, though unusual spikes may trigger additional verification checks.
Q: Why does my trusted device show a different city than my actual location?IP geolocation accuracy depends on ISP routing infrastructure and may reflect the nearest regional data center rather than precise coordinates.
Q: Will clearing browser cookies remove trust status?Yes. Cookie deletion invalidates the stored trust token, requiring full re-authentication on next visit.
