How to export trading history from Coinbase? (Data backup)
To export your Coinbase transaction history, log in, go to Reports, select date range and CSV format, generate the report, and verify data integrity before saving.

Accessing Your Coinbase Account Dashboard
1. Log in to your Coinbase account using verified credentials and two-factor authentication.
2. Navigate to the top-right corner and click on your profile icon to open the dropdown menu.
3. Select “Reports” from the list — this section consolidates all transactional data exports.
4. Ensure you are viewing the correct portfolio if multiple wallets or accounts exist under one login.
5. Confirm your email address is verified, as Coinbase may require re-authentication before initiating large exports.
Selecting Date Range and Export Format
1. On the Reports page, locate the date range selector near the top of the interface.
2. Choose a custom period — Coinbase allows selection from as far back as your earliest recorded trade, provided it falls within account retention policies.
3. Click the format toggle to switch between CSV and PDF; CSV is recommended for spreadsheet analysis and tax software compatibility.
4. Avoid selecting excessively broad timeframes unless necessary — exports spanning several years may time out or truncate without warning.
5. Note that staking rewards, airdrops, and NFT transfers appear separately and may require toggling additional filters.
Generating and Downloading the Report
1. After configuring filters, click the “Generate Report” button — processing time varies based on volume and network load.
2. A confirmation banner appears once the file is ready; download initiates automatically in most browsers.
3. If the download fails, check browser pop-up blockers and attempt again in an incognito window with third-party cookies enabled.
4. Verify file integrity by opening the CSV in Excel or LibreOffice — columns should include timestamp, asset, type, amount, USD value, and transaction ID.
5. Save the file with a descriptive name including date range and account identifier to avoid confusion during audits.
Handling Multi-Asset and Sub-Account Exports
1. For users with Coinbase Pro, Advanced Trade, or Coinbase One subscriptions, reports must be generated separately per platform.
2. The main Coinbase app does not auto-include Pro trades — visit pro.coinbase.com, go to “Reports > Transaction History” for those records.
3. Coinbase Wallet (mobile app) requires manual export via wallet settings — tap “Settings > Privacy & Security > Export Wallet Data”.
4. Institutional clients using Coinbase Prime must request reports through their designated account manager or use the Prime API with proper permissions.
5. Cross-check duplicate entries when merging files — identical transaction IDs across platforms indicate shared settlement but separate ledger entries.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does Coinbase include fees in the exported trading history?A: Yes. Each row displays the net amount received or sent, and the fee column explicitly lists the deducted amount in the native asset.
Q: Can I export data for a specific cryptocurrency only?A: Not directly through the UI. Filters apply to date and report type only. You must manually filter the CSV using spreadsheet tools after download.
Q: Why do some transactions show “Unknown” in the asset field?A: This occurs when the asset was delisted or unsupported at the time of export generation — the raw transaction remains valid but lacks current metadata mapping.
Q: Is there an API alternative for automated backups?A: Yes. Coinbase provides a REST API with authenticated endpoints like /api/v3/brokerage/orders and /api/v3/brokerage/accounts/{account_uuid}/transactions for programmatic retrieval.
