How to use the Crypto.com card
The Crypto.com Card lets you spend crypto worldwide with instant conversion, earning cashback in CRO based on your card tier and staking level.

Understanding the Crypto.com Card and Its Benefits
The Crypto.com Card is a cryptocurrency-powered debit card that allows users to spend their digital assets at millions of merchants worldwide. It functions similarly to a traditional debit card but is directly linked to your Crypto.com App wallet balance. When you make a purchase, the system automatically converts your chosen cryptocurrency into fiat currency at the point of sale. One of the most attractive features of the card is the cashback rewards paid in CRO (Crypto.com Coin), which vary depending on the card tier you hold. Higher-tier cards offer greater cashback percentages and additional perks such as airport lounge access and no annual fees.
Eligibility for the card depends on the amount of CRO staked in your Crypto.com account. Different card tiers — such as the Ruby Steel, Jade Green, Royal Indigo, and Obsidian — require different staking levels. For example, the base Ruby Steel card requires no staking, while the top-tier Obsidian card requires staking 40,000 CRO. The higher your tier, the more benefits you unlock, including increased cashback rates and higher limits on ATM withdrawals.
Activating Your Crypto.com Card
Once you receive your Crypto.com Card in the mail, the first step is activation through the Crypto.com App. Open the app and navigate to the 'Card' tab located at the bottom of the screen. If your physical card has arrived, you’ll see an option to 'Activate Card'. Tap on it and follow the prompts.
You will need to enter the last four digits of your card number and the expiration date. After entering this information, the app may request identity verification through a selfie or additional authentication steps. Once verified, your card will be activated instantly. For virtual cards, activation occurs automatically upon issuance, and you can begin using it immediately within digital wallets like Apple Pay or Google Pay.
Ensure your device’s location services are enabled during activation, as the app may require geolocation confirmation to prevent fraud. If activation fails, check your internet connection or contact Crypto.com support directly through the app’s help center.
Linking the Card to Mobile Wallets
To use your Crypto.com Card for contactless payments, link it to a mobile payment service. Supported platforms include Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay. Open the respective wallet app on your smartphone and select the option to add a new card.
- Tap 'Add Debit or Credit Card'
- Use your phone’s camera to scan the physical card or enter the details manually
- The system will send a verification request to the Crypto.com App
- Approve the verification within the app to complete the process
After linking, you can make purchases by holding your phone near a contactless terminal. Transactions are processed using the default cryptocurrency set in your Crypto.com App settings. You can change this default currency in the 'Spending' section under 'Payment Currency'. Supported cryptocurrencies for spending include BTC, ETH, CRO, and stablecoins like USDC and DAI.
Managing Spending and Currency Conversion
When you use the Crypto.com Card, the app automatically converts your selected cryptocurrency into local fiat currency at the current market rate. This conversion happens in real time, and you’ll see the transaction reflected instantly in the app. To control which crypto is used, go to the 'Spending' tab, then 'Payment Currency', and choose your preferred asset.
Each transaction incurs a small network fee if using volatile cryptocurrencies like BTC or ETH, though this is typically minimal. For more predictable spending, consider setting a stablecoin as your default. The app provides a spending limit dashboard where you can view daily, weekly, and monthly spending caps. Adjust these limits under 'Card Settings' > 'Spending Limits' to enhance security.
You can also freeze or unfreeze your card instantly if it’s lost or misplaced. This feature is located in the 'Card Management' section. Freezing the card disables all transactions while preserving your account integrity.
Earning and Tracking Cashback Rewards
Cashback is one of the core incentives of using the Crypto.com Card. Rewards are calculated based on your card tier and are paid weekly in CRO. For example, the Ruby Steel card offers 1% cashback on all purchases, while the Obsidian tier can offer up to 8% on specific categories like Netflix, Spotify, and Amazon.
To view your cashback earnings:
- Open the 'Rewards' tab in the app
- Select 'Cashback'
- Review the breakdown of each transaction and the corresponding CRO reward
Rewards are credited every Monday for the previous week’s spending. The amount is based on the CRO price at the time of payout, not at the time of purchase. You can track pending and credited rewards separately. If you upgrade your card tier mid-week, the new cashback rate applies only to transactions made after the upgrade.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Some users may encounter declined transactions despite sufficient crypto balance. This often occurs due to insufficient fiat equivalent value at the moment of purchase, as crypto prices fluctuate. Ensure your wallet has enough buffer to cover price swings. Another common issue is failed verification during mobile wallet setup. In such cases, restart the app, ensure your phone’s OS is updated, and retry the process.
If your card is lost, immediately use the 'Freeze Card' option to prevent unauthorized use. You can order a replacement directly in the app under 'Card Settings', with delivery times varying by region. For international transactions, confirm that foreign transaction fees are disabled — they are waived for most card tiers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use the Crypto.com Card without staking any CRO?Yes, the Ruby Steel card does not require any CRO staking. However, higher-tier cards with better rewards require staking between 400 to 40,000 CRO, depending on the tier.
How long does it take to receive the physical Crypto.com Card?Delivery times vary by country. In the United States and most European countries, it typically arrives within 7 to 14 business days. Some regions may experience delays up to 21 days.
Is there a fee for ATM withdrawals with the Crypto.com Card? Each card tier includes a monthly allowance of free ATM withdrawals. For example, the Obsidian card allows up to $800 per month in free withdrawals. Exceeding this limit incurs a fee, usually around 1.5% per transaction.
Can I change my default spending cryptocurrency after setting it?Yes, you can change your default payment currency at any time. Go to the 'Spending' tab, select 'Payment Currency', and choose a different cryptocurrency from the list of supported assets.
