How to convert small balances to OKB on OKX? (Dust clearing)
OKX automatically converts dust—tiny, untradeable token balances—into OKB using real-time market rates; it’s mandatory per asset unless globally disabled, with no fees but a 0.1% spread.

Dust Conversion Mechanics on OKX
1. OKX enables users to convert negligible token holdings—commonly referred to as “dust”—into OKB through an automated process known as dust clearing. This functionality targets balances too small to be traded or withdrawn due to network fees or exchange minimums.
2. The system scans all supported assets in a user’s spot wallet at scheduled intervals. Assets falling below the platform-defined dust threshold are flagged for conversion.
3. Conversion rates are determined by real-time market-weighted average prices across multiple liquidity sources, not fixed exchange rates. These values update dynamically before each batch execution.
4. No manual order placement is required. Once triggered, the conversion occurs instantly and appears as a credit of OKB in the spot wallet within seconds.
5. Users cannot opt out of dust conversion on a per-asset basis. Participation is mandatory for all eligible tokens unless the feature is globally disabled in account settings.
Eligible Assets and Thresholds
1. Over 120 cryptocurrencies qualify for dust conversion, including BTC, ETH, USDT, SOL, DOT, and most ERC-20 and BEP-20 tokens listed on OKX.
2. Minimum thresholds vary significantly: BTC dust starts at 0.00000001 BTC, while SHIB requires at least 1,000,000 units. These thresholds align with typical network transaction costs and liquidity depth.
3. Tokens without active markets on OKX or those lacking sufficient price feed coverage are excluded from the program—even if their balances fall below nominal thresholds.
4. Stablecoins like USDC and DAI follow separate valuation logic, using off-chain stablecoin index feeds rather than order book data to prevent manipulation during conversion.
5. Newly listed tokens may take up to 72 hours after launch to appear in the dust conversion roster, pending integration with internal pricing engines.
Fee Structure and Value Preservation
1. OKX does not charge a direct fee for dust conversion. However, slippage is embedded in the executed rate due to aggregation across fragmented liquidity pools.
2. The platform applies a uniform 0.1% spread adjustment to all conversions, visible only in the difference between the displayed reference rate and the final OKB amount credited.
3. OKB received from dust conversion carries no withdrawal lock or trading restrictions. It is immediately usable for fee discounts, staking, or transfers.
4. Conversion amounts are rounded to the nearest 0.00000001 OKB. Any residual fractional value below this precision is permanently forfeited—not accumulated or carried forward.
5. Historical conversion records appear under Wallet > Spot > Transaction History with the label “Dust Conversion”, showing original asset, quantity converted, OKB received, and timestamp.
Account-Level Configuration Options
1. Users can toggle the entire dust conversion feature on or off via Settings > Security > Dust Conversion. Disabling halts future conversions but does not reverse prior ones.
2. There is no option to set custom thresholds or select preferred target assets. OKB is the sole output token; no alternative denominations are supported.
3. API key permissions include a dedicated scope called “dust_convert”, which must be enabled for third-party tools to initiate or monitor conversions programmatically.
4. Sub-accounts inherit the master account’s dust conversion setting. Independent control per sub-account is unavailable.
5. Two-factor authentication is enforced for any change to dust conversion status. Email confirmation alone is insufficient to modify this setting.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I convert dust into assets other than OKB?No. OKX exclusively converts dust into OKB. No alternative output tokens or customizable destinations are supported.
Q: Why did my XRP balance disappear without triggering a conversion record?XRP is excluded from dust conversion due to its unique reserve requirement model and lack of compatible price feed infrastructure on OKX’s backend systems.
Q: Does dust conversion affect my tax reporting obligations?Yes. Each conversion constitutes a taxable disposal event in most jurisdictions. OKX provides CSV export files labeled “Dust Conversion History” under Reports > Tax Documents.
Q: Are dust conversions processed during maintenance windows? No. All dust conversion batches pause during scheduled or unscheduled platform maintenance. Pending dust remains unconverted until service resumes.
