How to use the Coinbase Browser Extension? (Web3)
Install Coinbase Wallet via Chrome/Firefox/Edge, create or import a wallet, connect to DApps like Uniswap, sign transactions securely, manage multi-chain assets, and back up your 12-word phrase.
Apr 01, 2026 at 11:00 pm
Installation Process
1. Navigate to the official Coinbase Wallet website and locate the browser extension section.
2. Click the “Add to Chrome” button if using Google Chrome or select the appropriate option for Firefox or Edge.
3. Confirm the installation prompt in your browser window.
4. Once installed, a Coinbase Wallet icon appears in the top-right corner of your browser.
5. Click the icon and follow the onboarding flow to create a new wallet or import an existing one using a 12-word recovery phrase.
Connecting to Web3 DApps
1. Visit a decentralized application such as Uniswap, Blur, or Aave that supports wallet connections.
2. Look for the “Connect Wallet” button, usually located in the top-right corner of the interface.
3. Select “Coinbase Wallet” from the list of available options.
4. Approve the connection request through the extension popup window.
5. Your wallet address appears in the DApp interface, and you are now authenticated to interact with smart contracts.
Signing Transactions Securely
1. Initiate an action within a DApp that requires blockchain interaction—such as swapping tokens or approving a token allowance.
2. A transaction confirmation window opens inside the Coinbase Browser Extension.
3. Review critical details: recipient address, amount, gas fee, and network (Ethereum, Base, Polygon, etc.).
4. Click “Confirm” only after verifying all fields match your intent.
5. The signed transaction is broadcasted to the selected network, and status updates appear in real time.
Managing Multiple Networks and Assets
1. Open the extension and click the gear icon in the top-right corner to access settings.
2. Scroll down to “Networks” and toggle support for chains like Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, or Solana.
3. Return to the main view and click “Assets” to see balances across all enabled networks.
4. Tap the “+ Add Asset” button to manually add ERC-20, BEP-20, or SPL tokens by contract address.
5. Each asset displays its current balance, value in USD, and recent transaction history.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use the Coinbase Browser Extension with hardware wallets? No. The extension operates as a software wallet and does not interface with Ledger or Trezor devices. It stores private keys locally in the browser environment.
Q: Does the extension support staking or yield farming directly? The extension itself does not offer built-in staking features. Users must navigate to supported protocols like Lido or Rocket Pool through connected DApps to initiate staking actions.
Q: What happens if I clear my browser cache or uninstall the extension? All wallet data—including private keys and seed phrases—is erased unless previously backed up. Recovery depends entirely on having securely stored the 12-word phrase outside the browser.
Q: Is the extension compatible with mobile browsers? No. The Coinbase Browser Extension is designed exclusively for desktop versions of Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Mobile access requires the standalone Coinbase Wallet app.
