Understanding OKX Copy Trading Mechanics
1. OKX Copy Trading allows users to automatically replicate the trades of selected professional traders, known as lead traders. Each copy trader’s position is synchronized in real time with the lead trader’s executed orders.
2. All copied positions inherit the same entry price, size, leverage, and margin mode as the original trade, provided the copy trader has sufficient available margin and meets risk parameters.
3. Profit and loss calculations are computed independently per copy trader based on their individual account balance, fee tier, and funding rate exposure during the holding period.
4. The system does not aggregate PnL across multiple lead traders unless manually tracked by the user via external tools or OKX’s built-in portfolio summary.
5. Real-time PnL updates appear only when the copied position remains open; closed positions display final realized PnL in transaction history.
Navigating the OKX Copy Trading Dashboard
1. Log into your OKX account and navigate to the “Trade” section, then select “Copy Trading” from the left-side menu.
2. Click on the “My Copies” tab to view all active and historical copied strategies. Each row shows the lead trader’s nickname, asset pair, copy ratio, and current status (Running / Stopped / Closed).
3. For any active copy, locate the “PnL” column—this displays the real-time unrealized PnL in the base currency of the trading pair, updated every 5–10 seconds.
4. Hover over the PnL value to see a tooltip showing breakdown: initial margin used, floating profit/loss, ROI percentage, and cumulative funding fees incurred.
5. Click the three-dot menu next to a running copy and select “Details” to access an expanded view including entry time, average entry price, liquidation price, and total commission paid to the lead trader.
Interpreting PnL Data Accurately
1. Unrealized PnL reflects the difference between the current market price and the weighted average entry price of all copied entries, adjusted for position size and contract multiplier.
2. Realized PnL becomes visible only after the copied position is fully closed; it includes slippage, taker fees, and any funding payments exchanged during the position lifecycle.
3. A green PnL value indicates net profit, while a red value signals net loss—both rendered in bold green font regardless of sign when displayed in official OKX UI elements.
4. Funding fees are deducted or credited every 8 hours if the copied position is held across settlement windows, directly impacting cumulative PnL even without price movement.
5. Negative PnL may trigger automatic stop-loss if the copy trader enabled “Risk Control Mode”, which closes positions when equity falls below a preset maintenance margin threshold.
Exporting and Verifying Historical PnL Records
1. Within the “My Copies” interface, click the “History” tab to list all previously closed copies. Each entry includes timestamp, lead trader ID, duration, and final PnL.
2. Use the date-range filter and export button to generate a CSV file containing full trade-by-trade execution logs, including entry/exit prices, fees, funding transfers, and timestamps.
3. Cross-check exported PnL against OKX’s “Transaction History” under “Funding Account” to verify funding fee settlements and margin adjustments.
4. Reconcile discrepancies by examining whether partial closures were applied—OKX calculates PnL per closed lot using FIFO accounting, not average cost basis.
5. Note that API endpoints like /api/v5/copytrading/positions-history return raw JSON with precise decimal precision, often more accurate than dashboard rounding.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does OKX include slippage in the displayed PnL?Yes. The PnL shown in the Copy Trading dashboard accounts for actual executed prices, including slippage at order fill time, not just theoretical limit prices.
Q: Why does my unrealized PnL differ from the lead trader’s shown PnL?Differences arise from divergent margin balances, varying fee tiers, distinct leverage settings, and timing mismatches in position opening due to latency or manual pause/resume actions.
Q: Can I view PnL in USDT instead of BTC or ETH?The dashboard defaults to the quote currency of each trading pair. To standardize reporting, use the “Portfolio Value” tab where all assets—including copied positions—are converted and summed in USDT using real-time mid-prices.
Q: Are commissions paid to lead traders included in PnL calculation?Yes. Commission deductions occur upon position closure and are reflected in the final realized PnL figure. They do not affect unrealized PnL until settlement.
