How to change your primary email on Coinbase? (Account settings)
To change your Coinbase email: log in, go to Settings > Privacy & Security, click Edit next to your email, enter the new address, verify the 6-digit code sent within 10 minutes.
Mar 02, 2026 at 05:39 pm
Accessing Account Settings
1. Log in to your Coinbase account using your current credentials through the official website or mobile application.
2. Navigate to the user profile icon located in the top-right corner of the interface.
3. Select Settings from the dropdown menu to enter the account configuration panel.
4. Choose the Privacy & Security tab on the left-hand navigation sidebar.
5. Locate the Email address section, where your currently verified primary email is displayed.
Initiating Email Change Request
1. Click the Edit button adjacent to your existing email address.
2. Enter the new email address you wish to designate as primary in the provided input field.
3. Confirm the change by clicking Continue, which triggers a verification flow.
4. Coinbase will immediately send a six-digit verification code to the new email address.
5. Return to the Coinbase interface and input the received code within the designated field before the 10-minute timeout expires.
Verification and Confirmation Process
1. Open the inbox associated with the new email address and locate the message from Coinbase titled “Confirm your new email address”.
2. Copy the six-digit numeric code from that email and paste it into the Coinbase verification prompt.
3. After successful validation, the system updates your primary contact identifier without requiring password re-entry.
4. A confirmation banner appears stating “Your email has been updated successfully.”
5. The legacy email remains linked to the account as a secondary recovery option unless manually removed later.
Security Implications of Email Update
1. All two-factor authentication (2FA) methods tied to the previous email remain active until explicitly disabled or replaced.
2. Login attempts made after the change will direct password reset requests exclusively to the new primary address.
3. Transaction alerts, withdrawal confirmations, and security notifications shift delivery to the updated email immediately upon verification.
4. Third-party integrations authorized via OAuth may require re-authorization if they rely on email-based session binding.
5. Any pending identity verification documents uploaded prior to the email update retain their validity and status.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I change my primary email if my account is locked?A: No. Email modification requires full access to an unlocked, authenticated Coinbase session. Locked accounts must undergo identity verification resolution before proceeding.
Q: What happens if I don’t verify the new email within 10 minutes?A: The verification link and code expire. You must restart the entire process by clicking Edit again and requesting a fresh code.
Q: Will changing my email affect my wallet addresses or stored assets?A: No. Wallet identifiers, private keys, and on-chain balances are cryptographically independent of email configuration. Asset integrity remains fully preserved.
Q: Is it possible to set up multiple primary emails?A: No. Coinbase enforces a single primary email per account. Additional addresses can be added only as secondary or backup contacts under Recovery Options.
